Due to circumstances beyond our control, we, the board of Northwest BookFest, have decided to cancel our upcoming event on November 1 and 2, Guiding You Through Indie Publishing, to be held at Northwest University.

We made this decision based on that fact that we were not able to get enough registrations to warrant holding the event and we did not feel like we were going to be able to provide you with a maximum learning experience.

In advance, we are sorry if we have inconvenienced you. Please contact me if you have further questions.

Regards.

Authors and writers, GOOD MORNING! Ok! Day 3 on getting your author platform locked and loaded. Did you go over yesterday's author "hub" (website) checklist? Nice! Remember, your website is one of the only online properties that you can truly control and own. A smart person once said, If you are providing content to a product, you ARE the product. So, lets talk about tip #3, Use the Blog. Before we start, have you registered for BooKFest yet?

When it comes to building and maintaining a platform, it really comes down to a couple of issues: We don't have enough time and we don't have enough money. So what I like to do is simplify things and cut out the time it takes to post on my top 4 or 5 online properties. This is where your blog comes into play. Most author owned websites today create a unique URL or website link for each blog post created. Did you know you could paste that unique URL into most online properties (like Facebook and Google Plus) and it will automatically pull a teaser and image from your blog directly into the post!?!?! This does a couple of things. One, you don't have to type the content over and over again. TIME SAVER! Second to read the whole post, the user has to go the website to read the rest of the post! Driving traffic back to your website! Does every post into a non-owned online property need to be done this way? Not really. I would recommend for longer conversations (like this post) use your blog. Smaller, not-substantial updates can be put directly into the online property.

There you go!! At BookFest we will be going into detail into how to structure your blog post to make sure it pops and gets clicks from your readers along with a TON of other information around writing, publishing and marketing.Get your tickets today! Good morning writers! This is just a friendly reminder to do something TODAY about building your own "Author Platform". It does not have to be something extreme or time consuming.... just do something. Between now and BookFest, I will be posting some practical things you can do to start building your own Author platform, today.

Today's tip is this: Realistically, much of what you do to promote yourself should originate from your website when possible. Why is that? Our author websites are truly the only tool that is our own. Tomorrow Facebook, Google, Twitter could all change their polices and cripple your marketing strategy. Starting with your website, guarantees that you will not only own, but be able to keep your content online. YES there are times we want to post other third party (other websites) specific content, but as a rule, publish to your website first, then share it.

Hope to see you all at BookFest this year. If you have not registered, do so soon. We have a limited number of tickets. http://www.nwbookfest.com/

BookFest mentioned on the Kirkland Views Blog! We love having this event in Kirkland, so convenient! http://www.kirklandviews.com/blog/2014/10/12/northwest-bookfest-writers-conference-to-focus-on-digital-publishing

The publishing landscape has changed significantly in the past few years,
as digital publishing creates new opportunities for writers to become
authors. With online distribution channels such as Kindle Direct
Publishing, Smashwords, CreateSpace, Apple iBooks and more, writers are
challenged to sort out the choices and make the best decisions about
publishing their work.

Presented by Northwest Bookfest, Guiding YOU Through Indie Publishing
offers two days of workshops, November 1 and 2, at Northwest University in
Kirkland, on the craft of writing, publishing alternatives and marketing
expertise.
