Good evening, everyone — it’s Thursday, July 16th, 6 p.m., We are live out here at Sons River Ranch and this is your San Marcos River update.

We’ve been feeling a little like Neo in The Matrix lately, dodging rain bullets left and right — We were very fortunate out here on the San Marcos River, we received just the right amount of rain over the past few days. The river came up about two feet this morning and has already settled back down to a perfect level for tubing and kayaking — running a bit higher and faster than it has been. Floats that were taking two and a half hours are now down to about an hour and a half.

Even better news: most of that rain fell up in Blanco, so the Blanco River is flowing beautifully again. That sets us up for exceptional tubing and kayaking conditions for the rest of the summer. The water is a little murky right now, but we expect it to clear back to its normal color by tomorrow — this weekend at the latest.

All of our Son’s properties are open, with one exception: Son’s Rio Cibolo, which wasn’t quite so lucky and saw about 35 feet of water. Thankfully, none of it reached the cabins, and our crews are working around the clock and we hope to have Rio Cibolo back open within a few days.

Our thoughts and prayers remain with all the outfitters, campgrounds, and families along the Frio and Guadalupe rivers — and everyone else affected by the recent flooding.

We hope to see you all out at the river tomorrow if you can start your weekend early. If not, this weekend should be a great time!

Not a guilt trip, just a genuine question. Because we watch it happen out here all the time: families show up, phones go in the dry bag, and suddenly everybody's just... in the river. Turns out a spring-fed, 72 degree river beats a screen every single time. Cool, clear water, cypress and pecan shade, and a private river beach where the kids can splash while you actually exhale. 🌊🌳
The whole day is $29.99 per person for unlimited tubing and kayaking, 10:30am to 6:30pm.
