💐A backyard wedding may seem like the perfect way to save money, but the reality is often much more complicated.
Before you commit to saying I do at home, consider what you're really taking on:
1. Parking for dozens or hundreds of guests.
Many properties do not have the capacity for parking all your guests and vendors. If you do have property large enough to host the wedding and parking, what would parking look like considering rain, walking distance, and organization so people don't get blocked in?
2. Restroom accommodations
Do you really want all your guests and vendors going into your families home to use the restroom the whole night potentially making a huge mess? You can rent portable restrooms but at what cost? If it is hot out, guests will melt in the restrooms.
3. Power
You will need some source of power for outdoor lightning if your wedding lasts until the evening. Your DJ will also need WiFi and power. If you want a photo booth, neon signage or fans, you will also need additional power for these items.
4. Rentals
You will need tables, chairs, linens, and potentially a tent just in case of rain. You will need to rent lighting for the tent as well. Who will be setting all this up? Many times this ends up being your family and friends during the week or on your wedding day. It will also be their responsibility to tear it all down afterwards.
5. Landscaping and property preparation
Power washing the house, yard maintenance, lawn repair after your wedding, are all things your family will have to care for before you can do any true preparations. Not to mention the liability will fall to the land owner if something were to happen.
