Today💔 I buried Vene- he was my friend. He was larger than life. He was my minister, my conch shell, blower, my paddler, my chanter: he was my friend💔 he was a loving father, a faithful husband, a son, a cousin, a brother, and uncle. He was my friend.💔 He was a cultural advisor, a famous actor, a fishpond builder, a Hawaiian storyteller, he was my friend💔 he buried my husband, he buried my brother-in-law, he married my sister, he blessed my new home. He was my friend.💔 He was a teacher, a leader , a wise man, he was my friend.💔 He was an ocean lover, a Hawaiian practitioner, a caretaker of the aina- he was my friend💔 he was a religious man- he ended every ceremony with: MAHALO KE ALUA- thanks to God.
He taught me to be like NALU: the wave. Ride the Highs, make it through the Lowe’s, and if you feel like life crushes you: dive right into it❤️
He was positive. Full of life and laughter. He was my friend 💔
Maui has lost a pillar, an anchor, a legend.
