We talk about generational trauma; but what about entrepreneurs breaking workplace trauma??

In the restaurant industry we joke that we’re all trauma-bonded. But these are real conversations I’ve had with my managers.
When is the break when I have a table now at 4:15 and I’m back in at 4:30?

I’m on my way to the ER and have texted every single other coworker to come in; I can barely speak or stand right now, I called as a last resort.

Xmas eve 2023. My dog was dying but we weren’t ready to say goodbye that day so…I went in for a couple hours out of guilt. (She passed day after Xmas and I had to beg to have just the day off to process. I cried to and from work for months. My other dog was also sick and they kept pressuring me to put her down as well so it could be over with and I could focus on work).

The no eating. The no breaks. Asking permission to be a human being. Being made to feel guilty for having a body, a family, an emergency.

I carried that for years. And when I built With a Splash, I made one promise: I will never recreate the thing that broke me.

So now I’m the person asking my team have you eaten? did you take a break? did you drink water? (Even at events I’m not physically at.)
Because people who feel cared for pour that care right back into everything they touch. You can feel it in the drink. You can feel it in the room.

Healing generational cycles isn’t just something we do at home. It’s how we lead.
