So Love Him !!

Everyone has value !

In 2018, Shoji Morimoto was fired from his Tokyo office job after his boss told him he "wasn't doing anything of value."

Most people would be devastated. Morimoto turned it into a brilliant business plan. He launched a service called "Do Nothing Rent-a-Man," offering his simple presence.

For 10,000 yen—about $85—plus travel and meals, he'll show up, sit with you, and do absolutely nothing. No conversation, no advice, no chores. Just a non-judgmental human body in the room.

To his amazement, thousands of people wanted exactly that. Over 4,000 clients booked him for the most human reasons: to wave goodbye at a train station, sit with them during a lonely lunch, or just listen as a silent companion.

Morimoto turned doing nothing into an $80,000-a-year phenomenon, inspired an Amazon Prime series, and authored a memoir.

He was once fired for providing no value. Now, thousands of people pay him because his presence is priceless.

Lāhui Foundation is a small grassroots nonprofit organization founded in 2019 in our humble town of Kahuku. Our five founders came together during a pivotal time, standing in protection of our community against the placement of the largest industrial wind turbines with the closest proximity to any community and schools. Through that experience—where we were all arrested together along with over 200 other Kia’i Aloha ‘Āina brothers and sisters, we realized the need for a unified organization to support and respond to future aloha ʻāina efforts. From that moment on, Lāhui Foundation was born, and we have remained committed to protecting and serving Hawaiʻi ever since.

The Lāhui Foundation logo represents the balance and connection between ʻāina and sky, our essential sources of life. The triangle symbolizes strength, unity, and foundation, reflecting how our community stands together to uplift one another. The green base represents the mountains and the land, grounding us in our roots and kuleana to protect it, while the blue above represents the sky and wind, carrying movement, energy, and guidance. The three birds symbolize our people moving forward together with resilience, passing ʻike from one generation to the next, embodying our mission to preserve culture, care for our ʻāina, and uplift our community for future generations.
