My late and great friend Sean King was such a phenomenal photographer and an inspiring human being. I was devastated to hear that he passed away in the 61G lava flow due to inhaling noxious gasses in Feb of 2018 I believe. I don’t know what made me to be overcome by his passing all of a sudden but what I do know is that life is too short so please hug and kiss your loved ones (especially the ones you hardly talk to) because you never know when you will get the chance again. I love you all and stay blessed my ohana. Malama pono oa’i’o a hui hou aku no.

Bridge over troubled waters. Lover’s arch at ‘Uolokeahi near Pu’u Pehe and Hulopo’e., Lāna’i. During time of rough seas of high tide, the waves can wash up on the tide pool shelves and knock people over or even drag them across the lava and into the bay. The waves that break around this rocky point are known as ‘Uolokeahi which is descriptive of the backwash dancing just as flames do.
It has been quite some time since I have picked my camera. Life’s kuleana, my depression and anxiety, all got the best of me I guess. Photography used to be a conduit for my journey into my native culture during happier times. Now its more like a reminder of what once was. Its time to move on to the next chapter in my life and embrace life once again.

Often misunderstood and marginalized because they surf “different” the foiler strives for the same kind art and beauty in each and every carve. Some may say its because of the hardware and its dangerous nature, but all the foil surfers I have met have been more than respectful and akamai in the water.
