Precious Petals & Pepper Berries Urban Farm

Precious Petals & Pepper Berries Urban Farm Farm, Jam & Jelly producer, Caterer & Floral Designer Our goal is to teach people how to grow, cook and earn money in todays whirlwind of life.

Our business is a little different... We have an urban farm that we grow produce, sell at markets and teach with as well as use the produce for our events. Like the old Chinese proverb says, "Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a life time." We are also catering and floral company that can help you with all your events. We can decorate your event

with fresh or silk flowers. We have many rental items to make your event beautiful. We can prepare great tasting food that is bought from local farmers in season. We cook everything from scratch so we have total control over the salt and sugar that is in each entrée. We can also take care of your birthday, anniversary, get well, holiday and funeral
flowers and catering needs with our wide range of items to pick from our menu. Let us help take the worry out of your daily lives and give us a call 816-230-0007

We had 8 kids 2, moms and a young man thinking about farming in his near future here on the farm today. What a blessing and privilege it is to share our love for gardening, homesteading and growing our community with them. They learn about chickens, planting elderberries, the soil, mushroom compost, manures, how to build a lasagna bed, how to plant elderberries and much more. They worked hard, they pushed hard, they ran fast and they played hard. Thank you for coming and helping at the farm.

So, what goes on at the farm in February? It is a really busy month for us... we are starting seeds, propagating plants, making more beds when we can get outside, planting in the high tunnel, canning jams & jellies as well as other products, making spice blends, ferments and much more! Caring for the chickens and building more coops and pins to welcome rabbits, turkeys and maybe peacocks this year. We are raising funds to build our produce washing station and packing station. We are finishing paying for the freezer & refrigerator that will be used for our products as well as the farmers hub. We will be teaching our ongoing Cooking Around the World Class as well as continuing to schedule more class for you our community to have "Hands On Learning". Some of the classes are: Sour Dough Bread Making, Cheese Making, Fermenting, Canning, Native Plants to Grow, Lasagna Gardening, All About Potoates, Seed Starting & Propagation, Floral Design and Painting in the Garden are just a few classes. Even though the classes fall under our nonprofit Pepper Berries Teaching Emporium they go hand in hand with our farm. Hard to teach some of these without the farm. The class that I am really looking forward to is "Why do we need BATS on the farm or in an Urban Setting" This class will be taught by a bat scientist, and she will be catching a few bats here on the farm the day before. We will be making a bat house in the class as well. The day will be April 11 at 1:00. working on this class to be free for everyone!

Local Food Thursday
Cooking with What the Land Gives Us
Local Food Thursday is one of my favorite weekly pauses—a moment to slow down, look at what we’ve grown or sourced nearby, and let the food tell the story.
This week’s meal was all about layering flavors from the land and honoring ingredients that don’t always get the spotlight.
We started with sweet potatoes and potatoes from our farm, roasted until tender and comforting. To elevate them, we turned to something a little unexpected: juniper berries. After roasting the berries to bring out their warmth and depth, we mashed them into a bold garlic and rosemary chimichurri. The result was earthy, aromatic, and deeply grounding—one of those flavors that feels ancient and nourishing at the same time.
Alongside the vegetables, we cooked pork chops, finished simply and topped with our apple-pear-walnut jam. The sweetness of the fruit and the richness of the walnuts balanced beautifully with the savory pork, creating a dish that felt both rustic and special without being complicated.
This meal was a reminder that local food doesn’t have to be fancy—it just has to be thoughtful. Using what’s in season, what we’ve preserved, and what our community grows creates meals that are full of meaning as well as flavor.
Local Food Thursday isn’t just about what’s on the plate. It’s about connection—to the soil, to the seasons, and to the hands that help grow our food. And weeks like this one remind me why we keep coming back to the kitchen, again and again.
✨ Simple food. Local ingredients. A whole lot of love.

Dear Friends & Farm Family,

Winter has settled in here at Precious Petals & Pepper Berries Farm, bringing with it quieter fields, thoughtful planning, and the kind of behind-the-scenes work that sets the stage for a beautiful growing season ahead. While the garden may look asleep, there is so much happening beneath the surface—and we’re excited to share it with you.

❄️ What’s Happening in the Winter Garden
This winter, we are building something special: our small fruit garden. This long-term project will provide abundance for years to come and includes a wonderful variety of fruits we can’t wait to watch grow:

Blackberries & Raspberries

Elderberries

Currants & Gooseberries

Goji berries

Grapes

Blueberries

Kiwi

Passion fruit

…and more to come

Even in winter, we’re planting with intention—thinking ahead to harvests, recipes, and sharing the fruits of this labor with our community.

🐔 A New Addition: Our Chickens
We welcomed our chickens just one month ago, and they are settling in beautifully. By February, we expect to have enough eggs to sell up to 10 dozen per week.

Eggs will be available:

At our on-farm stand

Or weekly at 1114 S. Noland Rd., Silver Heart Inn & Cottage

Fresh eggs, raised with care, ready for your winter kitchens and spring baking.

🌱 CSA Membership Opens April 1st
Our CSA Membership will officially open on April 1st. If you’re dreaming of fresh produce, herbs, eggs, and farm-made goodness as the growing season unfolds, this is the perfect way to stay connected to the farm.

More details will be shared soon—winter is our planning season, and we’re building something truly nourishing.

🍲 Cooking at the Pepper Berries Teaching Emporium
Winter is also a wonderful time to gather indoors, cook together, and explore new flavors.

❄️ A Winter Reflection
Winter reminds us that rest is not the absence of growth—it’s preparation. Seeds are ordered, gardens are imagined, recipes are tested, and plans are made with care. Thank you for being part of our farm story and for supporting local food, learning, and community.

We look forward to sharing spring with you soon.

Warmly,
