I'm so excited to welcome you to a music studio near you! We are proudly serving the families in the Plainwell, Parchment, and North Kalamazoo areas with high quality music lessons for students of various levels and abilities and mu
sic classes for the very young and their caregivers. One special focus of our studio includes early childhood education, Suzuki Method Strings and Piano, and Kindermusik. As a professional orchestral musician, I will work with the serious aspiring student to prepare for college auditions. I believe in giving the youth a strong start in their musical journey. I knew that I was destined to become a musician because I was raised in a musical family. My first instrument was the piano at age 6 and took up the violin at age 9. Since that time, I've always been involved in orchestra. My father, Lew, was a minister of music at our church and he fulfilled his dream to start an orchestra, and of course I played every Sunday along with my cellist sister, Laurel, and my mother, Linda, that sang in the adult choir. (Don't adjust your screen, you really are reading all the L's!)
So I perform all the time. I've been a member of the Grand Rapids Symphony, viola section, since 2007. Since 2015 I perform regularly as a viola soloist and chamber musician in Grand Rapids and all over the state. After achieving my Masters Degree in Cincinnati I wanted to nourish my love for teaching. In 2006 I attended my first Suzuki Institute in Columbus, OH and it changed my life and turbo-boosted my interest further. Consequently, I attended two summers at the Intermountain Suzuki Institute in Salt Lake City, Utah, achieving two teaching certificates in Violin 1-4, and Viola Book 5. Since then, I've been teaching exceptional kids. And they were exceptional before they arrived into my orbit. Two notable former students are Winton Garrelts, valedictorian, Lowell High School 2022 and violist and composer, Kennedy Dixon, a doctoral fellow at Princeton University. In the summer of 2023, I participated in a Kindermusik course, called All Keyed Up! This program is specifically developed for the child aged 4-5. My husband is Nick Fenske and we have three children; Aidan 16, Lillian 14, and Talulla 8.
