In Hawaiian culture, a lei is never just a floral necklace—it’s a gesture of love, respect, and connection.
Each one is handmade, each flower chosen with intention, each strand tied with care. When a couple exchanges leis during their wedding, it’s more than a pretty moment—it’s a sacred one.
Leis are often the first thing offered during a ceremony,
representing the giving of one’s heart and the weaving together of two lives. Some couples also gift leis to parents or grandparents as a way of honoring their support and presence. Others place leis on empty chairs, acknowledging loved ones who couldn’t physically be there. There’s no one “right” way to include them—but when done with meaning, this tradition adds a depth to your ceremony that words often can’t.
