Testimony time with Hoss from the most recent job and a lovely women who got a picture with him;

After getting to meet him and a photo she walks past me almost not saying anything.
But as she walks past she asks if he has a name. “His name is Hoss”.
“That’s what they called my dad”, she says

“Really that’s awesome”, I say.

She then proceeds to say he passed 4 years ago.
I tell her I’m so sorry and also that’s crazy he’s four years old.

We paused and then she said he passed in August. I said Hoss was born in August, August 5th I believe.
When she said her father passed August 15 I said wait, I went to our website to check because possibly I didn’t remember correctly and said no he was born August 15!!

I said ok I cannot let you walk away without saying something. I don’t know how much or what you believe about Jesus. But, this is not a coincidence. I said I’m not sure if you have been missing your father, and she interrupted with teary eyes I have been missing him!

I said first of all you could have easily went to the other steer who has a different name, you could have finished walking away without asking. But you didn’t and the fact that all these little details lined up are totally God telling you he sees you, to share with you he understands your pain. To remind you where your father is.

I said before you leave could I pray with you. She accepted gratefully and asked for a hug.

What a God we have! The way He uses anything and everything to speak to us if we can just lean in and listen or allow ourselves to clumsy fall into his grave and mercy bringing our brokeness to His feet and recieve the exchange for rest.

If you are needing a sign, a reminder, or a hug just take this little story and ask Him to reveal himself to you in the way you need it! He wants to speak, wants to show you His love for you which hasn’t stoped at the cross, but continues to speak and move on your behalf.

These moments right here, they are everything! All glory to God!

Have you ever walked past this small mural in the Fort Worth Stockyards? Did you know its painted from a real photo? Heather Reams’ daughters Cheyenne and Sierra stood on top of a couple of her very first longhorns, Lucky and Gus for a Twisted x boots ad. Later this mural was painted by Style Reed when Heather owned a little boutique right next to the mural. Now you know.

Pioneers of the west fought to carve out a legacy that can never be bought out.
The unbendable grit and gaze unto the horizon of something more something unknown something untouched. Was a selfless sacrifice for generations to follow. It was accomplished through prayers, blood, sweat, tears and a refusal to quit. That grit and refusal to stay down is itself the legacy. A legacy unparalleled.

Here at Lonesome Longhorn we are all about legacy. Paxton, the son of one of our most valued employees came to work with us the other day. He was just dying to come. We believe in raising children up in the way they should go, giving them space to learn & try themselves sometimes slowing us down sometimes failing and falling. To have space to shine, a space where boys can be men. Paxton has a heart to not only work hard but is very engaging with people. But Paxton didn’t slow us down nor did he really fail fall or make a mess! He’s one of the hardest working 5 year old I’ve ever seen. He loved it! He obviously has learned from amazing parents!

If I could have talked to my mother as a little girl, I’d tell her she’s not only going to create an incredible unique business through adversity. But that she would break the mold, she would inspire so many other women and men to never give up. To take life’s passions and use them as fire to blaze the trail ahead all while making room for others to smile and dance to have experiences in life they would otherwise never get.
To all the young cowgirls with that spark in your heart. Don’t give up, when life throws punches just climb atop and give it a wild ride and maybe you too will be a pioneer of something greater than yourself.
