my debut album, 22, is out now. 🤍
it’s almost impossible to put into words what it feels like to finally say that.
making this album exposed how exhausting it had become to constantly measure myself against the artist i thought i should be. every time i progressed at something, the finish line moved. there was always another skill i didn’t have, another person further ahead, another reason i hadn’t earned the right to feel proud of what i was creating.
and 22 kept putting me in situations where i couldn’t hide from that.
i learned piano. i started using my own voice even when hearing it back made me deeply uncomfortable. i lost projects and trusted i was meant to begin again. i fell in love. i let people into my life and my music in ways that challenged what i thought strength and artistry were supposed to look like.
but there was this strange contradiction happening inside the album. even when i felt lost, the music never really sounded lost. i kept feeling pulled towards warm, expansive, hopeful sounds. it was almost as if the part of me making the music still knew something the rest of me had forgotten.
22 didn’t give me my value. it reminded me that it was never something i had to earn in the first place.
and there is no 22 without Evan and MØØNE. these songs simply would not exist without the two of you. you gave so much of yourselves to this album and helped me bring these songs to life in a way that i never could have reached on my own.
and to all my incredible collaborators, Afnan Prince OCULA Mees Salomé LeyeT 💡 H E S S I A N Richard Walters
this body of work would not exist without all of you and the beauty you bring to the world. thank you for all that you are.
and to Colorize , thank you for believing in me and in this album, for giving 22 a home, and for giving me the support to make something this personal and share it with the world.
i have never put more of myself into anything. and today, that feels like one of the greatest privileges of my life.
22 🤍
