This week has been such a meaningful, full-circle experience!

On Tuesday, I had the opportunity to speak over Zoom with students in Dr. Karl Wendt’s counseling class at Harding University in Arkansas.

On Wednesday, Dr. Wendt brought his Ozark Christian College students to Journey Towards Hope Counseling, which is nestled inside Journey Through Slime. These students are studying counseling and preparing to become counselors one day.

I enjoyed sharing my journey and explaining how I incorporate creativity, sensory activities, and even slime into my counseling practice.

I began counseling with Dr. Wendt at Mount Hope Christian Counseling in May 2020 and continued there until October 2023. I gained so many valuable insights during those years, and much of what I learned continues to influence the work I do today. I’m incredibly grateful for Dr. Wendt’s investment in my journey and for the opportunity to encourage future counselors as they begin their own journeys.

Journey Towards Hope Counseling is accepting new clients at both of our locations—right in the heart of Main Street in beautiful Joplin, Missouri, and inside The Ledger in Bentonville, Arkansas.

Last Wednesday felt like going home! I returned to Carthage Intermediate Center, formerly Carthage Middle School, where I served as the school counselor from 2011 to 2020.

This time, I got to bring Journey Through Slime to Mrs. Kirby’s and Mrs. Murphy’s fifth-grade classes! These partner teachers and their students were so welcoming, and we had a wonderful time creating slime together. Along the way, I shared the journey of slime and a lesson about perseverance—working through challenges and not giving up when things don’t come together right away.

Being back in a place that holds so many memories made this visit especially meaningful. Thank you, Mrs. Kirby and Mrs. Murphy, for inviting me back to share something I love with your students!

It was such an honor to bring Journey Through Slime ice cream to the teachers and staff at Neosho High School for their first day of school! 🍦

It was wonderful to reconnect with teacher friends I had worked with in the past and see so many familiar faces. I also had the opportunity to meet the principals, and they were all incredibly kind and welcoming.

Neosho High School is truly an amazing place filled with wonderful people. Thank you for allowing Journey Through Slime to help make the first day of school a little sweeter!

Last Thursday, I had the honor of attending the Carthage R-9 School District’s Back-to-School Lunch and Vendor Fair!

I served as a school counselor at Carthage Intermediate Center from 2011 to 2020, so it was great to reconnect with so many friends I worked with and to see some of my former students. Carthage is an amazing school district, and I’m thankful I had the opportunity to be there.

Teachers and staff also had the chance to make slime with Journey Through Slime! I enjoyed sharing information about Journey Towards Hope Counseling and letting them know that I accept the district’s health insurance and am currently accepting new clients.

Celebrating Our Sweet Slime Manager, Kaysten! 💗

After four years and nine months of being such a special part of Journey Through Slime (yes, I really wanted her to make it to that five-year PLUS mark), our sweet Slime Manager, Kaysten, is beginning a new chapter!

For the past 2½ years, Kaysten has been cutting hair while also working with us at Journey Through Slime. Now, her hours at the salon have increased, and trying to balance those hours along with working at Journey Through Slime would simply be a lot. As much as we would love to keep her forever, we are so excited for her and incredibly proud of her as she continues building her career!

Amelia, her friend Kylee, and I took Kaysten out to eat last night, and this week we’re going to have a special celebration for her with our Journey Through Slime team!

It’s hard to put into words what Kaysten has meant to Journey Through Slime over these four years and nine months. She is one of the sweetest, most caring, and kindhearted people you will ever meet. She is dependable, hardworking, patient, and always willing to help wherever she is needed. There have been lots of laughs, plenty of fun, and so many memories made along the way. She has loved our guests, cared about our team, and helped make Journey Through Slime the special place it is today.

Kaysten really has grown up with us at Journey Through Slime. She started with us when she was just 17, and we’ve had the privilege of watching her grow into the amazing young woman she is today. We’ve watched her graduate, grow, find a career she loves, and begin this exciting new chapter in her life. We couldn’t be more proud of her, and we feel pretty blessed that Journey Through Slime got to be part of those years.

Kaysten has always told me she’d be a “lifer” at Journey Through Slime, so I’m still holding her to that! I really wanted that five-year PLUS mark, but I guess four years and nine months will have to do!

The truth is, though, being a “lifer” at Journey Through Slime has never just been about working here. Just because Kaysten won’t be working with us every week doesn’t mean she stops being part of our Journey Through Slime family. Jobs and seasons change, but the people who become part of your story don’t just disappear. Kaysten will ALWAYS be part of us, and there will always be a place for her at Journey Through Slime. 💗

Kaysten, thank you for four years and nine months of hard work, laughs, memories, kindness, and for loving Journey Through Slime like it was your own. We love you, we’re incredibly proud of you, and we’re cheering you on as you continue doing what you love!

We’ve always said “Slime Makes You Happy,” but the people who become part of our Journey are what make it truly special. Kaysten, you’ve certainly made our Journey a happier one. 💚

And Kaysten… as far as I’m concerned, you’re still a Journey Through Slime lifer!

A couple of weeks ago, I had such a fun surprise when Dr. Susan Knell and Angela Abbott stopped by Journey Through Slime! Dr. Knell was one of my college professors at Pittsburg State University way back in 1997—yes, that was a few years ago! 😂 She taught my Children’s Literature class and was truly one of my favorite professors.

Dr. Knell always had such a special way with her students. She was caring, kind, and genuinely interested in the people around her. She had a way of making you feel welcome and important, and you could always tell that she thought of others. Those are the professors I remember, almost 30 years later! She has since retired from Pitt State, and it was so good to see her again after all these years.

One of the things I love most about Journey Through Slime is getting to reconnect with people I haven’t seen in years. So many people from different chapters of my life have walked through our doors, and I love getting the chance to catch up, laugh about old memories, and make new ones.

I never imagined when we started Journey Through Slime that reconnecting with people would become such a special part of it, but it certainly has.

I love this Journey at Journey Through Slime! ❤️

Yesterday was such a special day at RAISE in Joplin! I had the opportunity to make slime with refugees from Afghanistan, Congo, Sudan, and Haiti. Their kindness, smiles, and joy truly touched my heart.

A huge thank you to Becca for inviting me to be a part of this amazing event! I have had the privilege of being at RAISE numerous times over the years, leading parenting classes, teaching, and doing slime events, and every time I leave encouraged by the sweet people and the incredible mission of this organization.

One of the things I love most is being reminded that love, kindness, and a smile are the same in every culture and every language. Even though we may come from different places and speak different languages, we can still connect, laugh, and create memories together. Slime has a special way of bringing people together and creating joy.

Yesterday, I also talked about how your mess can become your message. Life can be messy, but our struggles and difficult moments can often be turned into something beautiful and meaningful.
