At the end of the school year, I had the opportunity to participate in Career Day at Webb City Junior High, and it was awesome to see Jose Speer again! Mr. Speer teaches weights class at the junior high.

I met Jose in 2000, my first year of teaching, when I was teaching second grade at Harry S Truman Elementary in Oronogo, Missouri. He was a kindergartner in Mrs. Thompson’s class in the year 2000. It was great to reconnect and reflect on how many years have passed since then.

I enjoyed talking with the students about my journey from grade school teacher to school counselor, licensed professional counselor, and business owner. I also enjoyed answering their questions and sharing the Journey Through Slime story.

One thing I love about Journey Through Slime is that slime can be both fun and therapeutic!

Sweet Kathy is one of our regulars and loves coming in to make slime and enjoy our hand-dipped ice cream. Recently, Kathy broke her wrist, and her physical therapist recommended that she spend time squeezing and manipulating Play-Doh or clay to help strengthen her hand and improve mobility during recovery.

So Kathy decided to come make slime!

As she stretched, squeezed, pulled, and played with her slime, she was exercising those hand and wrist muscles while having a great time. Recovery doesn’t always have to feel like work—it can be fun too!

We love seeing Kathy’s smile and determination, and our SLIME TEAM loves her too! She always brings joy, kindness, and positivity whenever she visits.

Thank you for being such a special part of the Journey Through Slime family, Kathy! We are cheering you on as you continue to heal.

What a fun evening at Missouri Southern State University with the Upward Bound program!

Upward Bound is a free college-preparation program for qualifying high school students, serving 60 students from Carl Junction, Carthage, East Newton, Joplin, and Webb City. Students accepted into the program are first-generation college students and/or meet income eligibility guidelines.

It was such a blessing to bring Journey Through Slime to campus and spend time with these amazing students. There was lots of laughter, creativity, and, of course, slime!

Cathi McCombs and I worked together many years ago (2011) at Carthage Middle School, so it was especially meaningful to reconnect and partner together for this event. It was great seeing the students engage, create, and have fun while learning that slime really does make you happy!

Thank you to Missouri Southern State University and the Upward Bound program for allowing me to be a small part of what you’re doing to encourage and support students as they prepare for their futures. A special thank you to Cathi McCombs for the invitation and the opportunity to be part of such a great event. It was wonderful reconnecting with you after all these years!

Thank you, Central School in Baxter Springs, Kansas, for hosting me for your Slime Day on May 15th! 💚 It was such an honor to make slime with your students while also sharing my lesson on perseverance — reminding them that even in the mess, there’s always a message.

It was so amazing getting to make slime with 241 students (and even some teachers too)! What made this day even more special is that I went to Central School from kindergarten through 5th grade, so walking back into the school truly felt like going home. It felt like a full-circle journey for me.

Central School has some of the BEST staff and teachers, and it was so special seeing people I’ve known for many, many years — some my whole life. It was also great seeing Mrs. Frampton, who taught my nephew Ethan and my niece Jadyn.

Mr. Krokroskia even came to Central School to visit, and it was great seeing him too. He was my principal in middle school, so that made the day even more special.

Thank you for allowing me to come share slime, smiles, and memories with your students. Days like today remind me why I love what I do.

Last Wednesday was a busy but awesome day! I started the morning at the Webb City CARES breakfast with principals, staff, and the Webb City CARES team. I love being part of a group that cares so much about students and our community. It was also great catching up with Becky Gilcrest. Becky and I used to be in a church home group together years ago, so it was really good seeing her again.

Then I headed to Carl Junction for Mrs. Janet Allison’s preschool slime event. Those preschoolers were amazing listeners, and Mrs. Allison is such an incredible teacher. You can tell she truly loves her students.

After that, I was off to Harry S Truman Elementary (Webb City Schools) for a slime event with students who met their raffle ticket goals for the carnival. They earned the opportunity to design and make slime and had so much fun! I also got to do a career talk with the fourth graders.

Last week I had the honor of visiting Mrs. Angela Abbott’s 5th grade class at Carl Junction Intermediate School and sharing some life lessons through slime-making with her students.

As the students made slime, we talked about perseverance — how life can feel sticky and messy at first, just like the glue. It can be frustrating and you want to quit, but if you keep working through it and don’t give up, something really good can come from it. By the end, they had an awesome slime creation and a reminder that hard things can turn into something good when we keep going.

I’ve known Angela for about 30 years. Back when I was attending Pittsburg State University to become a teacher, I had the chance to observe in her classroom in Baxter Springs, Kansas. She was an amazing teacher then, and she still is today.

Her students were welcoming and respectful, and her classroom president and vice president made me feel especially welcome — along with all the other students too. I love the leadership roles she gives her students. Those kids are going to be better because they were in her class, and Carl Junction is blessed to have her.
