Pet of the Month: Marley

Sometimes the pet you need has a way of finding you.

Marley's story began on a cold February day in Chicago when he was only about three and a half months old.

My husband was at our office when he heard a faint meow coming from outside the back door. When he opened it to investigate, a tiny orange furball walked right in—as though he had already decided this was exactly where he belonged.

We had never seen stray cats around the area, and his arrival came at an especially unexpected time. Our dog had passed away only a week or so earlier, leaving behind an emptiness I was still trying to process. Somehow, this little orange kitten appeared at just the right moment and began filling a space in my heart I didn't realize needed filling.

Marley quickly settled into the family. Our cat Mickey was thrilled to have a kitten around, and the two bonded almost immediately. Today, Marley is still just as easygoing and lovable. He loves people, gets along wonderfully with our other rescued kitty, Puddy, and generally seems quite content with the life he chose for himself that February day.

I always considered myself more of a dog person.

Then Marley walked through the door.

And this sweet orange boy has been holding my heart in his paw ever since. 🐾

Noteworthy Non-Profit: Exodus 14 Ministries

Sometimes a second chance can change everything.

Located in Greeneville, Tennessee, Exodus 14 Ministries is helping individuals facing addiction find hope, healing, and a path toward a different future.

Their free, year-long faith-based recovery program goes beyond simply addressing addiction. Through counseling, education, spiritual guidance, and a supportive environment, Exodus 14 works to equip individuals with the tools they need to rebuild their lives and move forward with purpose.

Faith is at the heart of that journey.

Exodus 14 believes lasting transformation can be found through the love of Jesus Christ, addressing the physical, emotional, and spiritual challenges that often accompany addiction. Their goal is not simply recovery, but restoration—helping people rediscover their confidence and strength, rebuild relationships, and create a new way of life.

Perhaps one of the most meaningful parts of the ministry is the people walking alongside those they serve. Members of the Exodus 14 team have themselves been personally affected by addiction, allowing them to offer encouragement and guidance with an understanding that comes from lived experience.

Today, Exodus 14 is part of Free Will Baptist Family Ministries, an organization that has served children and families since 1939. Together, they continue a mission centered on sharing Christ, strengthening families, and caring for people during some of life's most difficult seasons.

Recovery can be a long road, but no one should have to walk it alone. Through faith, support, and a community willing to stand beside them, Exodus 14 Ministries is helping people discover that their story isn't over.
