Photographer Justin Falk of Charleston, SC is a professional, creative artist who is passionate about capturing some of lives most important moment’s through his camera. At Justin Falk Photography we specialize in wedding, engagement, birthday & all of types of events! From Justin Falk:

I was born and raised in Staten Island, New York. It was there, in 2002 as a former finance professional, I began taking seriously my life-long passion of photography, taking candid personals and landscape shots around New York City. After relocating to the South Carolina Lowcountry in 2007, I decided to make my passion a profession, going full time in 2012 as Justin Falk Photography. I got my first real break in Charleston’s competitive photography industry when I was hired on as a Staff Photographer of the James Island Messenger newspaper here in Charleston, SC in 2012. Since that time, Many of my photographs have appeared in a wide variety of local and National publications & media outlets including The Charleston Post & Courier, USA Today, Newsweek, Travel & Leisure, the Charleston City Paper, and Charleston Magazine and more. I also do a lot of work and photography projects with the Charleston Preservation Society because I love Charleston and I believe in what they stand for preserving the heart and soul of Charleston. I have received a number of commendations for my work in many events in the area including but not limited to Magnolia Gardens photo contests, Coastal Carolina Fair’s photo contests, Charleston Magazine’s annual photography contests, was named a finalist as the best photographer to “follow” at Charleston Social Media Day awards ceremony, Top 10 Wedding Photographers in Charleston and ! Today I have a permanent booth 7 days a week selling my landscape photography at the Charleston City Market have had my booth for 7 years and do very well at the market and online sales. I am always booked shooting 50+ weddings throughout the year, multiple family photo sessions, surprise wedding proposals, creative pet photography and events for some of the biggest companies in Charleston. Recently, I have also recently taken on the challenge of opening a photography studio in West Ashley to add another aspect to my business to include Holiday mini sessions, professional headshots and maybe start teaching other new photographers the nature of the business. My main photographic focus has been to capture the simple, iconic beauty of the S.C. In both my landscape photography and in all my portraiture, I do my best to utilize my unique artistic eye to create compelling images that capture life lived well against the backdrop of the natural world.

Stephanie and Gordon are friends of mine. They had a wedding photograph made at the Charleston City Marina. During Stephanie's pregnancy, we went back to the same spot and recreated it. Years later, we returned again with their son.

One place on Lockwood. Three chapters of their family.

One of the tall ships that docked in Charleston a few years ago. I stopped for the symmetry — the masts, rigging and flags, with the Ravenel behind it. There was so much history in one frame. It looked like a ship that could tell a few stories about the sea.

That band of cloud sat along the horizon all evening doing nothing.

Then the sun dropped underneath it and lit it from below. The flats were still draining, so a channel ran right down the middle of the frame, and the wet sand took the whole sky and doubled it.

A few minutes, then it was gone.

I photograph proposals around Charleston, and the ones that go well are usually worked out about three weeks ahead. Long enough to pick a spot and a tide, short enough that nobody accidentally tells her.

You put me somewhere she won't look. She doesn't know I'm there until it's done, and then I come in and we photograph the two of you properly — the ring, and whatever the light happens to be doing.

I love photographing proposals like this. If you're planning one around Charleston, send me a message here or through the site:

Anyone who's walked Folly at dead low knows how far those flats go out.

What's easy to miss is that they stay wet. A thin layer of water sits on the sand for an hour or so, and anything standing on it reflects. I use it every chance I get — it's one of my favorite things about photographing down there.

No trick and no editing. Just a tide chart.

If you're planning a proposal at Folly and want to know which hour to aim for, it's on the proposal page:
