One of my favorite moments from my recent family trip to Bogotá. Talk about a truly unique destination wedding! The Salt Cathedral of Zipaquirá is a truly remarkable place! About 180 meters underground, carved into a salt mine and filled with salt-carved sculptures, tunnels, enormous crosses, beautiful lighting, and chandeliers glowing against the walls of the mine.
The history is just as beautiful: miners originally created small altars inside the mine for protection, which eventually inspired the creation of an underground place of worship. The current cathedral opened in 1995.
As a designer, I couldn’t help but appreciate how the architecture, lighting, textures, and history of this remarkable space could transform an event into a truly unique experience.
