What a weekend!!!!
The Courtyard Wedding & Event Center❤️

Greg and I are taking a moment to reflect on what can only be described as a whirlwind of a few days—full of purpose, connection, and so much gratitude.

Thursday evening - we were blessed to have Midwest Mission hosting their incredible annual gathering with us!! To see so many people come together in service—and hear the stories of how they are supporting communities near and far in times of need—was powerful and humbling.🙏🏻
Friday brought us straight into wedding mode with nearly 190 guests celebrating a truly beautiful couple and their amazing families. Being even a small part of such meaningful moments—where memories are made and love is celebrated—is something we never take for granted.

From there, we had the joy of opening our space to local photographer Emily Ostrander for a heartfelt “mom & me” photo session. Watching those quiet, meaningful moments being captured reminded us just how special simple connections can be. 📸

And then… we turned up the volume 🎶
Saturday night for an incredible lineup for a Pheasants Forever fundraiser—featuring the Jared Benson Band, Claudia Coltrane, Sawyer Springer, and Brandt Lawler. Between the music, community, and support for conservation efforts, it was a night we won’t forget anytime soon.

When Greg & I stepped back and looked at it all, one theme stands out: service.

Service to others.
Service to families.
Service to our community.
And even service to the land and wildlife that surround us!!!

We feel so grateful to share this space with all of you—to host your stories, your celebrations, your causes, and your moments. It means the world to us to see familiar faces return and new faces walk through our doors (especially those discovering us for the first time and sharing such kind words about what this place has become).
Small towns are built on connection, and this weekend was a beautiful reminder of that.
From the bottom of our hearts—thank you for supporting us, believing in what we’re building, and making The Courtyard a place where so many meaningful moments happen.

In a small town where art and music are part of the heartbeat, something special has been quietly growing.
Once a month, inside our venue, musicians that are local and from across Iowa rent & gather—not for pay, not for spotlight—but for the simple love of sharing their talent. They call it the “Monthly Pickers Circle”
There’s no admission. No expectations. Just an open invitation from all who rent and gather.
This past Sunday, more than 14 musicians and vocalists came together. Guitars, ukulele, harmonica, keyboards, voices—seasoned performers and first-timers alike—filling the room with music that, at moments, quite literally took your breath away.
This circle is rented & guided by two incredible women, Kenni Falls and Trisha Bauer, who create a space that is welcoming, supportive, and deeply rooted in community.
What makes this afternoon special isn’t just the talent—it’s the spirit behind it. Strangers become collaborators. Neighbors become an audience. And for a few hours, the noise of the world fades into something real.
In a town that prides itself on creativity, this truly is what that looks like in action.
If you’ve never been, they invite you to come experience it for yourself. Bring a friend, bring your instrument, or just bring your love for music.

From Vision to Venue

There are moments when Greg & I step back, look around The Courtyard, and feel a wave of emotions—accomplishment, gratitude, perseverance, and excitement all at once.

What once served many purposes has been lovingly transformed into a space where memories are made. A place where couples say “I do,” families gather, milestones are celebrated, lives are honored, and connections are strengthened through weddings, rehearsals, reunions, birthdays, Anniversaries, bridal and baby showers, celebrations of life, and corporate Christmas Parties & events.

This journey has been a huge undertaking. Renovating this building came with challenges, lessons, and ongoing growth. There were days that tested us, details that required reworking, and moments where perseverance mattered most. Through it all, our hearts stay focused on one thing—creating a space filled with warmth, care, and intention for every person who walks through our doors.

Seeing our calendar fill, welcoming guests from both near and far, and watching couples fall in love with this space reminds us why we started. It makes every hurdle worth it. We are deeply grateful for the trust placed in us and for the opportunity to serve in such meaningful moments of people’s lives.

As we step into 2026, our hearts are full and our vision continues to grow. We are excited for all that’s ahead and honored to be part of so many unforgettable stories.

Greg & I would like to send a big shout-out and heartfelt “Thank You” to Hy-Vee for choosing The Courtyard as the location for their Christmas party!
It was such a fun and awesome group. It was especially great seeing people who work together day in and day out getting the chance to relax, laugh, and enjoy themselves together. We loved getting to talk with and meet the people who help keep our Hy-Vee running smoothly and serve our community every day!!!

Despite the cold and snowy weather, the celebration was filled with warmth and joy. We were pleased to provide our venue as a space for the couple and their wedding party to prepare for their big day and are grateful to have been included in such meaningful moments.
