Did you know Churchill, Manitoba has a trifecta?

Bears. Belugas. Borealis. Three reasons this little town in Manitoba feels like nowhere else on Earth.

The trick is timing. Visit in late summer and you might catch all three in one trip. It's also a sweet spot for smaller crowds and potentially better prices than peak season.

Friday morning, my husband and I took a quick trip up the Smokies to try to capture some of the rut action. It was worth the early wake up. We were so fortunate to observe several beautiful elk and behaviors, plus the morning fog and sunrise were an added bonus.

My husband suggested Hilton Head for our family vacation.

I countered with a 3,000+ mile road trip through multiple national parks, the Black Hills, and more hours in the car than any reasonable family should probably spend together. Add in an excessive amount of camera gear, constant photo stops, questionable decisions, and an undisclosed number of family arguments along the way. šŸ˜‚

We came home completely exhausted but also grateful and full of memories, and with thousands of photographs to help us remember why every mile was worth it. ā¤ļø

The northern lights over Miss Piggy in Churchill. Such a cool place to photograph the aurora.

If you look closely, you can see the plane wreck on the rocks. Miss Piggy was a cargo plane that crashed in November 1979 after having engine trouble shortly after takeoff. All three crew members survived, and the plane has been there ever since.

Does any one know why she is named Miss Piggy?
