We lost one of the very best!
For 46 years, Steve Kruger was much more than an employee at the Schnitzelbank; he was family.
Steve was a fixture here and a friend to everyone. Throughout Dubois County, he was known as an incredibly hardworking, dependable, and talented "fix-it" kind of guy. If something broke at any one of our locations, Steve was the first person we called. It didn't matter if it was a busy Saturday night, a quiet Sunday afternoon, or the middle of the night. He answered the call EVERY TIME and owned a key to every building we owned.
There was a sense of comfort to us all knowing that no matter the problem, we knew he would find a solution. He quietly moved through our buildings, never looking for recognition, simply doing whatever needed to be done.
Steve was dependable beyond measure. He was humble, kind, and never complained about any task we put in front of him. He wasn't just someone who repaired equipment; he took care of all of us.
Over the years, Steve became part of our family. He was at one of our locations almost every day and was always included in our gatherings, especially our Christmas celebrations. His presence brought a sense of reassurance that is impossible to replace.
Steve seemed to know everyone and everything happening around town. We often joked that he was our personal news source. He'd stop into the bar, catch up on the national news, chat with everyone for a few minutes, and then head off to whatever project was waiting for him next.
Steve leaves behind a legacy that will live on within these walls forever. His work, his loyalty, and his generosity, helped shape the Schnitzelbank into what it is today. We will be hard-pressed to ever find someone who can fill the shoes he leaves behind.
Steve, thank you for 46 years of unwavering dedication, friendship, and service. You made our lives easier, our business stronger, and our family better simply by being part of it.
Rest in peace, Steve. You will be forever missed by all of us at the Schnitzelbank.
