UNF School of Music Audition Dates
• January 30, 2027
• February 13, 2027
• March 6, 2027
• March 27, 2027 (last audition date)

Steps:
1️⃣ Apply to the University of North Florida
2️⃣ Register for an audition through your UNF applicant portal
3️⃣ Prepare your audition requirements and show us your music

Whether you're an incoming freshman, transfer student, grad student, current School of Music student, or a UNF student from another major who wants to keep making music, now is the time to get ready for an exciting year.

🎶 Ensemble audition sign-ups are open, and the orientation schedule is available now.

A Professor of Music at the University of North Florida, Dr. Smart’s latest recording showcases his distinctive compositional voice, blending classical tradition with jazz influences and musical inspiration from around the world. The album features performances by acclaimed pianists Erin Bennett, Yukino Miyake, and Galen Dean Peiskee.

🎉 Congratulations to UNF School of Music graduate student Alexander Washington!

Alexander, a first-year master's student in Conducting, has been named a recipient of the Barry Manilow Foundation's Manilow Music Teacher Award. This national honor includes a $10,000 grant to support the band program at Jacksonville Classical Academy, where he serves as band director.

We're proud to celebrate Alexander's dedication to music education and the incredible impact he's making for the next generation of musicians. 🎶👏

A room full of musicians creating, listening, improvising, and learning together. 🎶
 
Led by Dr. Timothy Groulx, the Sound Before Symbols Workshop brought together UNF students, alumni, and local music educators to explore a teaching approach that develops musical understanding through sound and expression before reading notation. Participants spent time collaborating, practicing new strategies, and reimagining how music can be taught and learned.
 
We’re proud to host professional development opportunities that strengthen music education throughout our community and beyond.

What a week at the UNF School of Music Summer Camp! 🎶
 
Middle and high school musicians from across the region spent the week learning, performing, and growing alongside outstanding UNF faculty and guest artists. From concert bands and jazz ensembles to improvisation sessions and masterclasses, students immersed themselves in a vibrant musical community while developing their skills and making new friends.
 
This year’s faculty included UNF professors and artists from the Jacksonville music community, including members of the Jacksonville Symphony, who shared their expertise and passion with the next generation of musicians.
 
There was plenty of music, plenty of learning, and … plenty of bagels eaten, too! 🥯
 
Thank you to our campers, faculty, staff, students and families for making this year’s camp such a memorable experience. We can’t wait to see where your musical journey takes you next. And we hope too see many of you next year!
