The bar is done! Beyond happy with how this project turned out and even happier that Rob likes the wallpaper 🙌🏻

It never ceases to amaze me how sometimes the simplest updates and changes can have the biggest impact. If you swipe to the end you can see the before. All I did was use temporary wallpaper tutorial with this beautiful wallpaper and add one shelf and our bar area feels brand new.

How it started -> How it's going⁠⁠

Is still a thing? Three years ago we did the major overhaul of our downstairs living space. It started as a dark, wood paneled room with a random stone hearth in the corner.⁠⁠
⁠⁠
Was it our style? No. But, more importantly than that, it didn't function for us. It's come along way since demo day 2018 and is infinitely more functional. It was the first major project I undertook and it's one of my favorite rooms in our house. ⁠⁠

Although it's been three years since we did the major overhaul, this room, like so many others, is still a work in progress. There are a few details I'd like to add when I get the time, but none of them stop us from enjoying the space to the fullest. ⁠⁠

All of this to say, you don't have to do everything all at once. A lot of shows only show people doing their whole home at once. In reality, we often update our homes room by room, weekend by weekend, project by project as time and budget permit. ⁠⁠

One day. $100. Brand new laundry room.⁠⁠

Who says a functional space can't also be beautiful? Our old laundry room was sad looking. But aside from not being a pretty space, it lacked function.⁠⁠

Living in a small house, we need all the storage we can get. Since moving into this house almost four years ago, we've been slowly updating each space to maximize function while adding some coastal charm. Here's how I did it in one day for $100...⁠⁠
⁠⁠
-Time: about 8 hours (a portion of this spent watching paint dry)⁠⁠
-What I reused: laundry hamper, counter trash can, laundry pod container ⁠⁠
-Cost breakdown:⁠⁠
--4'x8' sheet of MDF: $29.01 - used for shelves and two white bins⁠⁠
--2'x4' sheet of birch plywood: $21 - used for countertop⁠⁠
--Woven baskets (Ikea): $33⁠⁠
--Art print (museumqualityart.com): $20⁠⁠
-Supplies I already had on hand:⁠⁠
--Wood for shelf braces and countertop front (scrap 1x4 & 1x2 from another project - always save your scraps!)⁠⁠
--Paint and painting supplies (leftover from painting our bedroom a few months ago)⁠⁠
--Countertop stain (tinted medium walnut danish oil leftover from another project)⁠⁠

See this table - I built it! It’s not perfect. And it’s not staying in this spot forever because of some errors I made. There were lots of lessons learned but such as is when you’re learning something new.⁠⠀

I picked up wood working late last year and am venturing into furniture building this year. It’s going to be fun and I’m taking you on the journey with me as I go. ⁠⠀

It's 8:32 am on Wednesday, October 23rd. It's a pretty big day for me. I've been working endlessly towards today. Yet, all I keep thinking is....

If I don't say anything, no one will know. If no one knows, technically I didn't fail because no one knew about it.

This feels like the scariest thing I've ever done.

I'll make this announcement and there will be crickets.

Maybe I'll give it one more day.

Actually, maybe a week. People will care more next week.

This is the biggest thing I've ever done.

I can't actually achieve a goal this big so why try.

Maybe I should take the dogs on a really long walk first, then I'll launch it. They haven't been on a walk in a long time.

Every small business owner I know knows these feelings and thoughts. They are what circle our minds right as we're about to launch something we've put endless effort into.

We'll here goes nothing...
