My Dear WO Friends 🤍
It’s hard to believe I’ve been a small business owner since 2016. What many of you may not know is that my journey into entrepreneurship was never accidental — it was layered, intentional, and deeply rooted in a lifelong desire to serve.
As a young girl in middle school, I knew I wanted to help people — specifically in the area of finance. By my junior year of high school, I made a conscious decision to enroll in a business course at the vocational center. That decision opened the door to an opportunity to work at a credit union as part of my studies. By my senior year, I was offered a full-time position as a Member Services Representative, eventually becoming a Lender.
For over twenty years, I had the honor of walking alongside individuals and families as they navigated their financial journeys — transitioning from credit union to banking, earning promotions, and building a career I was proud of.
In October 2016, I retired myself from banking to become my own boss. But here’s what many don’t realize — during my final years in banking, something else was quietly being born.
At church, I found myself drawn to the women who decorated for special occasions. It wasn’t just the florals or the fabric. It was how the room felt when people walked in. There was peace. There was warmth. There was intention. I began assisting them, and in the process there were conversations, ministry moments, laughter, and connection. They weren’t just decorating — they were preparing an atmosphere where people could receive what they needed.
That’s when it dawned on me: I could create spaces like that outside of the church. Spaces where beauty met purpose. Spaces where celebration and support coexisted. Spaces where I could serve — sometimes with décor, sometimes with wisdom, sometimes with encouragement. In June of 2013, I married my wonderful husband — my partner, my calm, my steady. And in 2016, Worthy Occasions officially had a name.
What began as a home-based business evolved into serving Michigan, Indiana, and Ohio from a downtown storefront. Worthy Occasions opened doors I never imagined walking through. We were featured in local news and magazines. I was given platforms to speak into the lives of aspiring entrepreneurs. Clients became collaborators. Collaborators became friends. Friends became family. But none of it came without cost.
In early 2024, after a two-year battle with cancer, I lost my husband. Many of you had the privilege of meeting Terry — his energy, his humor, his contagious laugh. He kept everyone on their toes and made sure no detail was overlooked. He was light and strength. He was my calm in a demanding industry. If it were not for my faith in God, the unwavering support of my family, my close friends, and this WO community, I would not have had the strength to sustain a thriving specialty rental and event services business through such a devastating loss.
Terry is now my ongoing motivation. His absence reminds me daily to live fully, to choose joy intentionally, and to find the lesson in every season life presents.
With that being said…
After much prayer, reflection, and conversation, I have made the incredibly difficult decision to close the storefront chapter of Worthy Occasions. This is not a decision rooted in defeat. It is one rooted in alignment.
For years, I have poured into creating beautiful atmospheres for others. Now, it is time for me to honor the next evolution of my own journey — to rest, to rebuild in new ways, and to step into the next calling on my life.
Worthy Occasions was never just about pretty centerpieces and linens. It was about people. It was about dignity. It was about making moments feel worthy of intention and excellence. And that mission will always live in me.
To every client who trusted us with your weddings, showers, birthdays, galas, corporate and milestone celebrations — thank you. To every vendor who collaborated with integrity — thank you. To every supporter who liked, shared, referred, and prayed — thank you.
This is not goodbye to serving. It is simply goodbye to this version of it.
From the depths of my heart — thank you for allowing me to serve you since 2016. Thank you for walking with me through triumph and tragedy. Thank you for being part of the Worthy Occasions story.
With much love, sincere gratitude, and expectation for what’s next,
Tonja Worthey
