With Spirit Halloween moving into Jackson, it is with a heavy heart that I must announce we won't be setting up Halloween Headquarters. Competing directly with a national chain, especially in today’s market, is tough for a small, seasonal business like ours, & we didn’t want to risk giving the community anything less than our best. Thus, we felt it was best to step back. I understand this may come as a disappointment for many of you who sought us out in the fall year after year. We too are disappointed & the decision to close our doors has been a difficult & painful one to make.
This would've been the 32nd year of Halloween Headquarters, of being your source for spooky stuff in Jackson. It was a privilege to work with Libby Valley when she owned & operated Halloween Headquarters & it's been an honor to take the reins & serve the people of Jackson & the surrounding communities. This would have been my 12th year setting up shop for the Halloween season. Like a domino effect, this loss doesn't just affect one person, but the community, my family, and my friends as well. Not only for this year, but for years to come.
None of this would have been possible without help from my friends & family as well as support from the community. I'd like to express my greatest thanks to Jill & my family. I met Jill through Libby & she's been a lifesaver ever since. There's no way on earth that I could have done HHQ without her. Every year, she's the maverick of making the shop look amazing. I couldn’t ask for a better friend & teammate for HHQ.
My son, in-between attending college, started out being my IT, marketing, & advertising guy, then switched over to my PR guy while trying to navigate through this emotional time. My husband was paramount in loading up, hauling, unloading, & setting up shop, which always fell on our anniversary, during hunting season and his birthday. Last year, my lifelong friend Teresa came all the way from back home in Wisconsin to spend the entire month helping out. Thank you, Teresa!
Next, James and Karen have been very gracious & accommodating ever since he answered our prayers for a location & it was an excellent home for HHQ. We had finally found our forever home at the Lewis & Clark River Expeditions, at least until this sad news came about.
To me, Halloween is a magical holiday & over the years we've helped families pick out costumes for their kids, who have now grown up & are doing the same for theirs. It’s also a special time where people of all ages get to enjoy transforming into something or someone different. Every season we have witnessed the smiles & laughter of people trying on wigs, wild glasses, crazy hats & unlikely costumes. We are extremely grateful to you all for shopping locally for such a long time!
I couldn't be more thankful, though it breaks my heart to draw the curtain on Halloween Headquarters, especially this way & not on my terms. It's been an awesome run & we were happy to not only have filled your homes with haunting decor, helped you pick out the perfect costume, pulled accessories together from out of the blue, or that last minute detail to finish off your ensemble, but to have played a part in building your Halloween memories that will hopefully last a long time. I know for a fact the memories & friends made along the way will be with me always.
Thanks again for supporting us, growing up with us, & bringing your friends & families to get their scare on. Though we may not be in Jackson, I wish you all a wonderful Halloween season & a spectacular fall.
~Jenni & the HHQ Family
