As a former member of the Baptist Denomination I believe my life was called to the CME Church. I relocated to Jackson TN for College and graduated HBCU Lane College, the first of several 4 year colleges established by the CME Church. I love the history of the CME Church and it's mission to educate.....(hazel e chism)
The Colored Methodist Episcopal (CME) Church came into existence as a result of
the movement from slavery to freedom. The Methodist Episcopal (M.E.) Church South was an outgrowth of Wesley's Methodism. Some Blacks, converted to Christianity by slave masters, accepted the Methodist doctrine as it was. However, the emancipation of Blacks from slavery created the desire by Blacks to have and control their own Church.
