Happy Sunday! • One thing I have asked from the Lord, that I shall seek: That I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, To behold the beauty of the Lord And to meditate in His temple. Psalms 27:4 NASB1995

The Hebrew title for Psalm 27: A Psalm of David.

(v.1) The Lord is a light to the believers. He guides and leads us. With this confidence, David said, Who shall intimidate me?

(v.2-3) Though enemies want to do harm to him and armies deploy and war breaks out around him, he wasn't afraid.

(v.4) In spite of the troubles surrounding David. He had a desire. He wanted to have a close, intimate relationship with the Lord. To dwell with him all the days of his life. Gazing at His beauty and His kindness.

(v.5) David had enemies from his household to nations that hated Israel. He had confidence that God would protect him from his enemies.

Closing: In these few verses we note the many ways David referred to the house of the LORD. “David seems to be ransacking the Hebrew language for nouns to describe it: ‘the house of the Lord’ (Psalm 27:4) ‘his temple’ (Psalm 27:4), ‘his dwelling’ (Psalm 27:5), ‘his tabernacle’ (Psalm 27:5-6).” - James Montgomery Boice

“The two acts complete the joyful employment of a soul communing with God: first perceiving and then reflecting upon His uncreated beauty of goodness.” - Alexander Maclaren

Happy Saturday! - ‭Mark 2:27 NASB1995‬ [27] Jesus said to them, “The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath. 📖

Jesus Christ and his disciples had a disagreement with the Pharisees. Let me show you the last few verses in Mark 2. 👇

‭Mark 2:23-28 NASB1995‬
[23] And it happened that He was passing through the grainfields on the Sabbath, and His disciples began to make their way along while picking the heads of grain. [24] The Pharisees were saying to Him, “Look, why are they doing what is not lawful on the Sabbath?” [25] And He *said to them, “Have you never read what David did when he was in need and he and his companions became hungry; [26] how he entered the house of God in the time of Abiathar the high priest, and ate the consecrated bread, which is not lawful for anyone to eat except the priests, and he also gave it to those who were with him?” [27] Jesus said to them, “The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath. [28] So the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath.”

The religious leaders had many rules about the Sabbath. One example was you could only walk a mile on the Sabbath. Couldn't lift anything heavy on the Sabbath. And so many others.

Let's say you're getting ready to attend church. You get a call from a family member or friend and tell you that they need a ride to the hospital because they aren't feeling well. Do you meet the human need or do you perform your ritual observance? Answer. The human needs are much greater than your ritual observance. See verses 24-25.

The important thing is that Christ is the Lord of Sabbath. He, not mankind, instructs us to love our neighbor as ourselves. Helping those that are in need. It only matters what He is offended by.

Closing: “Any application of the Sabbath Law which operates to the detriment of man is out of harmony with God’s purpose.” - G Campbell Morgan

Happy Friday! • Therefore we do not lose heart, but though our outer man is decaying, yet our inner man is being renewed day by day.
2 Corinthians 4:16 NASB1995
📖

Apostle Paul's second letter to the church at Corinth. He didn't want the church to lose heart of the gospel though they are experiencing stress from persecution and laboring in the faith.

Paul hits home on this. Our earthly bodies are decaying daily. Whether you admit it or not, you can see the changes. One day, we'll transition out of these sinful bodies where the old nature and new nature are at constant war with each other. God will give those who put their faith in Christ a new, incorruptible body.

Even though this body is decaying, we should daily renew our inner man.

Roman 12:2 tells us not to be controlled by the world's system, but be transformed by the renewing of your minds.

*We have put on a new man 👉
and have put on the new self who is being renewed to a true knowledge according to the image of the One who created him— Colossians 3:10 NASB1995

God's Mercy to us 👉
He saved us, not on the basis of deeds which we have done in righteousness, but according to His mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewing by the Holy Spirit,
Titus 3:5 NASB1995

In order for your inner man to renew you daily, the Holy Spirit must live in you. 👉 Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own? 1 Corinthians 6:19 NASB1995

Paul tells Corinth and other future believers something expected beyond your thinking. 👉
For momentary, light affliction is producing for us an eternal weight of glory far beyond all comparison, while we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen; for the things which are seen are temporal, but the things which are not seen are eternal. 2 Corinthians 4:17‭-‬18 NASB1995

Closing: Outward man has the same idea as earthen vessels in 2 Corinthians 4:7 and mortal flesh in 2 Corinthians 4:11. The message is the same: “On the outside, we are suffering and taking a beating, but on the inside, God is blessing and renewing us!” - D. Guzik

Happy Thursday! • “Do not call to mind the former things, Or ponder things of the past. Behold, I will do something new, Now it will spring forth; Will you not be aware of it? I will even make a roadway in the wilderness, Rivers in the desert.
Isaiah 43:18‭-‬19 NASB1995
📖

Isaiah is prophesying about an event that will happen in the future. At the time of this prophecy, Judah is still free.
He tells how Judah will be under the Babylonian rule for 70 years, but after the time is up. God will deliver them.

The former Babylonian empire was located in modern day Baghdad, Iraq. They were a nation on the rise. Overthrowing other nations. God's judgment for Judah was because of their sins, mistreatment of the poor and idolatry. God allowed Babylon to take Judah in captivity.

Verse 18) Isaiah tells those in captivity that would read this years later, not to focus on being in captivity and what brought you there. Don't dwell on the past. God will do something new and different like they have never been seen in that age. He will cause another nation to overthrow Babylon, free Judah and send them back to their homeland.

Verse 19) The people of Judah will be over 500 plus miles away from home when in captivity. God will make sure when that time comes, He will provide plenty of nourishment and protect them from the wildlife enroute to Judah.

Closing: Though God saw Judah in the future about being in captivity, He knew their future deliverance. While in captivity, Jeremiah wrote a letter to Judah that has this well known verse to encouraged the people. 👉 For I know the plans that I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans for welfare and not for calamity to give you a future and a hope. Jeremiah 29:11 NASB1995

Behold, I will do a new thing: "Staying stuck in the past can keep us from the new thing God wants to do. If Israel stayed stuck in the discouragement and seduction of Babylon, they would never look for the new thing of release from exile." - David Guzik

Happy Wednesday! The Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.
John 1:5 NASB1995
📖

Verses 1 & 2 - Apostle John reveals who is the Word. God Himself is the Word. Genesis 1:1, In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The Word was there before creation. John mentioned that (v.2) Jesus was with God in the beginning. 👉 Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; and let them rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over the cattle and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”Genesis 1:26 NASB1995

Verses 3 & 4 - All things in heaven and earth were made by Him. The Word is the source of life. He is the Light to mankind.

Verse 5 • The earth was formless and void, and darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was moving over the surface of the waters. Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light. God saw that the light was good; and God separated the light from the darkness. God called the light day, and the darkness He called night. And there was evening and there was morning, one day.
Genesis 1:2‭-‬5 NASB1995

Physical nor Spiritual darkness can't overcome the light of life. That light is Christ.

Satan brings spiritual darkness to the world. Chist has overcome it. 👉 These things I have spoken to you, so that in Me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation, but take courage; I have overcome the world.”
John 16:33 NASB1995

Closing: “The Greek verb is not easy to translate. It contains the idea of laying hold on something so as to make it one’s own. This can lead to meanings like ‘lay hold with the mind’, and thus ‘comprehend’…[Yet] The verb we are discussing has a rarer, but sufficiently attested meaning, ‘overcome’. It is that that is required here.” - Leon Morris

“In the first creation, ‘darkness was upon the face of the deep’ (Genesis 1:2) until God called light into being, so the new creation involves the banishing of spiritual darkness by the light which shines in the Word.” - F.F. Bruce
