In rural Southaven, Mississippi, 27 temporary gas turbines roar like jet engines day and night to power data centers for Elon Musk's xAI.

Powering AI data centers requires vast land and resources and, for communities like Southaven, a tradeoff between the promise of new jobs and tax revenue vs. environmental and energy costs.

The money, speed and urgency with which Musk and other tech leaders are pursuing the ventures didn’t give communities in Southaven much time to push back over noise and health concerns.

Big K**b Grange Announces the Big K**b Grange Maple Syrup Festival
April 18–19, 2026

New Sewickley Township, PA — When it became clear that Beaver County would be without a Maple Syrup Festival this year, the Big K**b Grange quietly began working behind the scenes to ensure the community wouldn’t lose a tradition so many look forward to each spring. Recognizing the clear need for an event that celebrates agriculture, local producers, and family connection, the Grange made the decision to step in and fulfill that need with a festival of its own.

The Big K**b Grange is proud to announce the Big K**b Grange Maple Syrup Festival, taking place April 18–19, 2026.

The festival will be held on the Grange’s well‑maintained grounds, featuring ample on‑site parking, strong vendor relationships, and a 6,000‑square‑foot building to comfortably welcome guests. As the longtime host of the Big K**b Grange Fair, a KCBS‑sanctioned barbecue competition, and an annual pancake dinner that raises funds for a local family in need, the Grange brings deep experience in organizing meaningful, community‑centered events. This foundation makes the organization well‑equipped to launch a maple‑themed celebration that honors agriculture, tradition, and community spirit.

“We saw the possibility of the festival going dark and felt a responsibility to step up,” the Grange shared. “We’re honored to bring a Maple Syrup Festival to Beaver County and look forward to working alongside the many volunteer groups who have helped keep similar traditions strong over the years. Together, we’ll build something the community can be proud of.”

The Big K**b Grange Maple Syrup Festival will feature local vendors, family‑friendly activities, and — of course — plenty of pancakes and maple syrup. Additional details and vendor information will be announced in the coming weeks.

Hungry deer have made a mess of my landscaping

This guy and his friends have been spending the nights eating my landscaping. Nothing scares them away. Night flashing lights, dogs barking or gun sounds. Ugg

Just a little deer traffic around the house. I just missed getting a picture of a doe staring at me through the kitchen window a few minutes ago. It’s 11:40 and they are eating my ground cover in daylight. Very hungry creatures. One of them slept outside the basement door.

The flower eaters, “deer”🦌 making what appears to be nightly visits to the farm. They are completely unfazed by the new camera and spotlight. My daughter Shelby and son-in-law Alex thought I could see them and yell at them with this new camera. I would have to be awake first. Notice the time. 😴💤
