In 2021, during the Covid-19 international pandemic. Gerald J.A. Brooks was laid to rest. Private Brooks was appointed onto IFD on March 20th, 2000. 

He was both a great firefighter and community servant. Private Brooks was a highly active member of the IBFA. He formerly served the association as an E-Board member, Secretary, and Vice-president. After being an IFD firefighter for over 21 years, on November 2nd, 2021 Private Brooks passed away due to health issues realted to the Covid-19 Virus. At the age of 49 Private Brooks became IFD’s sixth Black line of duty death.

History is a big part of the IBFA. A lot of people don’t know that Black firefighters have been making an impact in the city of Indianapolis for over 140 years.

The first four Black firefighters were hired onto the Indianapolis Fire Department in 1876!

A high volume of stolen credit cards and chargebacks at restaurants indicates a significant problem with credit card fraud, where criminals are using stolen card information to make purchases at restaurants, and then the cardholder disputes the charges, forcing the restaurant to refund the money and incur additional fees, leading to substantial financial losses for the business; this is often exacerbated by the ease of making fraudulent claims online or through delivery apps, making it harder for restaurants to verify legitimacy of disputes.

With that being said
Chef BOREL‘s kitchen is Catering Only. Moving forward 
We will no longer be accepting single orders, walk up orders or orders through our delivery apps. There is a problem when you spend $12 on an order and then do a chargeback on $12.
I have the names and I have pictures of these people. I’ll be sharing them in the restaurant group for those who are members. 

Moving forward, we will only be catering for corporate offices,
Law offices, doctors offices, any company that is having a meeting a training  an office party or a lunch and learn. 
We ask for a 24 hour notice for catering orders thank you kindly.

Today's volunteer spotlight is Byron Daugherty!

Byron has volunteered with us since 2018. He gathers and maintains meal data for all food assistance programs (both government and charitable) across the whole state of Indiana, using a massive spreadsheet. Each year, he turns the data into a pie chart showing where the meals come from and demonstrating that 75-90% of meals (depending on the year) come from the federal government, with the charitable sector making up the rest. Thank you, Byron, for helping us communicate the needs and resources in our community!
