What if kindness is the hidden force that keeps everything from coming apart?

In other words, kindness is not
simply something we do.
It is something woven into
the fabric of reality itself.
Some would call it the tendency of life
toward healing, connection, and renewal.
Even nature hints at this paradox.
The world can be ruthless.
Storms destroy forests, and
animals prey upon one another.
and yet at the same time,
life is full of astonishing cooperation.
Trees share nutrients through
underground fungal networks.
The human body continuously
repairs itself.
A wounded heart slowly
learns to love again.
Spring follows winter with
remarkable consistency.
There is destruction in the world, certainly.
Yet, there is also a persistent movement
toward restoration.
Not that everything is kind.
But that kindness is somehow
deeper than cruelty.
Cruelty makes noise.
Kindness often works quietly.
A fallen tree becomes nourishment
for new growth.
A stranger offers help
at exactly the right moment.
A friend calls when they had
no reason to know you needed them.
Perhaps the world endures
because kindness is
far more common than
despair is willing to admit.
