A little behind-the-scenes update from my new adventure as a photography teacher!
We’ve been learning about composition, and one of the things we’re practicing is the rule of thirds.
The basic idea: instead of always putting your subject right in the middle of the frame, try placing them along one of the grid lines or at an intersection.
It’s a simple change that can make your photos feel more intentional.
And honestly… one of my favorite parts of teaching is getting to watch students start seeing photography differently.
What photography concept do you want to learn about next?

Come with me for a busy day of shooting content!
First stop: the airport to capture content for International Students Inc. Then it was off to a local school to fly the drone and capture some aerial footage for their upcoming football game.
Two completely different shoots, one very full day—and I wouldn’t have it any other way!
A little behind the scenes of what a day in full time content creation looks like!!

If you've been waiting for fall photos, don't wait until the last minute—once these spots are booked, I won't be adding additional dates.

Big news... I’m officially a high school photography teacher! 📸
I first fell in love with photography when I was in high school. What started as a class turned into a career that has allowed me to tell stories, travel the world, serve nonprofits, and meet so many incredible people.
Now I get the opportunity to be on the other side of the classroom, helping students discover their own creativity and passion for photography. I honestly can’t wait to see what they create this year.
For all of my amazing clients—don’t worry! Sarah Halferty Photography isn’t going anywhere. I’ll still be taking portrait, commercial, nonprofit, and travel photography clients on select weekends throughout the school year.
Thank you to everyone who’s supported this journey over the years. I’m excited for this new chapter and grateful that I don’t have to choose between teaching and continuing to do what I love behind the camera.
Here’s to inspiring the next generation of photographers!!

I brought a vintage film camera all the way through Japan & Korea…the camera chose retirement instead. 💀

Jet lag in Japan gave me one unexpected gift: this sunrise. 🌅
My body thought it was the middle of the day, so I was out the door at 3:30 a.m.—and it turned into one of my favorite photos from the trip.
Sometimes the best travel moments happen when your plans don't.
Would you get up at 3:30 a.m. for a view like this?

Chasing color in the streets of Japan and Korea.
Some of my favorite travel moments happen far from the famous landmarks. It’s the vibrant alleys, neighborhood markets, and everyday life that tell the real story of a place.
Where should I chase color next?

Some of my favorite landscapes from Korea.
One of the things I love capturing is the contrast between old and new—the timeless beauty of traditional architecture framed by a skyline that’s constantly evolving.
After more than 20 years away, I was amazed by how much Korea had changed, yet somehow still felt like home. Those are the stories I love telling through my camera—not just what a place looks like, but what it feels like.

One of my favorite things about visiting Korea is exploring the local markets with my kids in the place that was once my childhood home.
The sights. The sounds. The smell of fresh street food. The shop owners calling out to customers. Every corner holds a memory, and now I got to experience it all again through my children’s eyes.
There’s something special about sharing the places that shaped you with the people you love most.
Have you ever taken your kids—or someone you love—back to a place that means home to you?
