🖼️ Friday Night 8/7 at The Kirby in Uptown Roxboro, come meet our Hawkins Loop Artist in Residence and Bird Fest friend Casey Girard! River Thrush Studio

Casey’s back in Person County from Western North Carolina, where they live and work as a nature illustrator and create unique and gorgeous art and gift items that educate and inspire.

Casey is the third nature-based visual artist we have hosted in collaboration with the Person County Arts Council and Kirby Cultural Arts Complex since our creative residency program started (shout out Shawna and Virginia Christman !)

We work together to provide time for the artists’ process to unfold along side personal rest at the Hawkins Loop Guest House, facilitate all-ages community engagement events, and the stellar team at the Kirby produce gallery shows to promote the artists’ work to new audiences.

As a longtime board member of the Person County Arts Council and forever advocate of more (and more and more) arts in education and community spaces, we are so grateful for the challenge and the trust to bring new ideas like this to life where we live. Back from another epic (and star-studded ❤️ THANK YOU Kate Flannery ❤️) East Coast roadtrip to fill our hearts with friends and family time, our bellies with home cooked meals and the New Jersey hoagies of childhood, and our heads with inspiration for even more nature-based art and adventure at Hawkins Loop.

🍀🫟🌈🌿 OUR FIRST CAMP! This week we had 20 kids and helpers here for three days learning all about textiles, color theory, tie dye techniques, natural dyes, flower hammering, watercolors, nature journals and more.

Our relationship with Person County 4-H has meant so much over the years and we are so proud to see our collaboration keep growing. Programs like 4-H are a lifeline for communities across the country and there are so many opportunities available.

We’ll be starting a photography club this fall and we’ll meet at the farm with different mentors. Stay tuned for more details and reach out with questions!

How fitting for Brendan’s birthday to fall on 🛠️🪚💪🏻

These are just two of his extensive portfolio, what we call The Log Barn and The Shop. Brendan’s vision, persistence, and creative problem-solving transformed them from abandoned relics of North Carolina Piedmont to***co production to amenities for our family, friends, and guests to enjoy. As always, the original craftsmanship and care were the jumping off point for a thousand new ideas that Brendan diligently worked through to arrive at their current purpose in this place.
