I get a lot of clients who are bummed when they find out it's going to be cloudy and grey on the day of their shoot. Honestly, I love cloudy session days! The clouds act as a natural diffuser for the sun creating soft, beautiful, natural light.

I've been taking photos for MANY years, and while I probably shouldn't admit this, I still get a little freaked by the sun. The day of this session was bright...I mean really bright...not a cloud in the sky, bright! With very little shade, this was definitely a "make it work" moment.

I couldn't have had a more patient, kind, and all-around-amazing family. This group trekked in the wet sand, over the rocks, and through branch-strewn paths to help me navigate the light.

Sunny days can be tough, but when it works...IT WORKS! You gotta love that warm, sunlit, glow.

I always cringe internally when I ask people to sit in tall grass during a photo session. My clients are good sports about it. I know it's uncomfortable, and doesn't always feel natural, but it's like the children's book, If You Give a Mouse a Cookie... if you give a photographer long grass, SHE'S GOING TO ASK YOU TO SIT IN IT! The bokeh (fancy shmancy photographer term for foreground and background blur) in these images GIVES ME LIFE! There is just something about tall grass blur that can't be beat!
