Please give you are able. Every dollar helps us continue our educational outreach to children across the entire state of West Virginia.
FRIENDS, ROMANS, COUNTRYMEN of Alchemy Theatre and Alchemy Theatre's Geneva Kent Center for the Arts - LEND US YOUR EARS!
Shakespeare's birthday is April 23rd! Let's raise some money for his 461st!
As you have probably seen from our posts, the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) has targeted the arts and humanities across the nation. So far, they have cut funding for the National Endowment for the Humanities by 80%. This directly affects each state.
This means that the West Virginia Humanities Council is no longer fully funded and must suspend ALL current and future grants. Even for grants awarded LAST YEAR.
The West Virginia Shakespeare Festival and Alchemy Theatre has received the WVHC's major grant for the last FIVE years.
Losing this money directly affects the following programming at Alchemy and WVSHAKES:
- The Fall Shakespeare Tour for kids throughout West Virginia
- The year-long free lecture series in the Winter, Spring, Summer and Fall
- Children's camps, School shows and Educational Outreach
- Paychecks and Stipends for Artists, Scholars and Directors
- Paychecks and Stipends of nearly everyone involved at Alchemy
- The West Virginia Shakespeare Festival Day, Performances and Productions
- Free Workshops for children and adults
- And Much, Much More.
Our GOAL is to raise money to off-set what the government has taken away from us. We believe that our donors and supporters stand behind what we do, even if there are powers actively working against it.
The arts are so incredibly important to so many people. If you've ever watched t.v., a movie, seen a stage show, a dance show, a comedy show, a band play, read a book, listened to the radio, been to a museum, seen a picture or a painting or a sculpture, read a poem, played a video game, or any other of countless ways art impacts everyone's lives, you know exactly what we mean.
This money will go directly to where that grant money was intended to go: to help us in our educational and theatrical endeavors for the 2025 WVSHAKES Festival.
We want to maintain our high level of quality and offerings that we have come to be known for in our area.
We believe you want that, too.
Since it's Shakespeare's 461st birthday, we'd like to raise $14,610 for The Bard and WVSHAKES, to keep our production values and educational outreach TOP NOTCH and keep moving forward, even when things continue to be so bleak.
Throughout the coming weeks, we will be pushing this campaign as hard as we can. We have a lot of ground to make up in a short amount of time. We'll have some videos and other cool things to share in the coming weeks.
We would be honored if you could help us with a donation.
As ever, thank you for your unending generosity and support, through all of the trials and tribulations of this life.
We love you and can never thank you enough for all that you do.
Please help us spread the word!
