🥔 A Letter From Tater
Hi. My name is Tater.
I’ve been waiting here since July 15, 2025.
The people at the shelter say I’m their longest resident now, but I don’t really know what that means. I just know I’ve watched a lot of other dogs pack their bags and leave with their new families.
I wag my tail every time the door opens.
Just in case it might be my turn.
This weekend I waited again.
Families came in.
They looked at the available dogs.
But no one asked to meet me.
When adoption hours ended and the lights started going off, one of the volunteers sat with me for a little while. They scratched behind my ears and told me I’m a good boy.
They always tell me that.
They say I’m smart and funny and that I make people laugh when I zoom around the play yard like a goofball.
They say I’m a good friend to dogs who like to play like I do.
And that I love people more than anything.
But I guess the right person just hasn’t come yet.
Before I got here, I lived on a farm. I made a mistake and chased chickens, so I can’t live with those again.
I even tried having a home once after coming to the shelter.
I thought that was it.
I thought I finally found my family.
But the dogs that lived there didn’t want me to stay.
So I came back here.
Everyone keeps promising me that my people are out there somewhere.
I hope they’re right.
Because I’m ready to love someone.
I’m ready to run in a yard that’s mine.
I’m ready to fall asleep knowing I’m home.
So if you’re reading this…
Maybe you’re the person I’ve been waiting for.
Love,
🥔 Tater
