Current state of the MARPE jaw expansion process for airway expansion and TMJ/Sleep Apnea correction: Tuesday was 5 months since all this was installed, and in the past month, I’ve had two very painful infections in the roof of my mouth requiring antibiotics.

And I’ve been expanding for several months longer than I was originally told I would be (no surprise there). Upon seeing me again today (complaining about still being in pain, and the roof of my mouth still inflamed) the periodontist asked the orthodontist, “Can we cut the 4 arms off the device already and can she be done expanding? Her mouth needs relief!”

The orthodontist said yes, but unfortunately, the periodontist is now gone for the week, so the arms will get removed next Monday. Then next Wednesday, top braces will get installed and begin the process of shifting my front teeth back together to eliminate the (massive and not-so-cute) gap that I have tolerated now for several months. And other little gaps now too! (I hate seeing my teeth in pictures these days! I used to love my smile 😞)

The middle part of the device will remain in the roof of my mouth likely another five months and the braces for probably another year or so.

But who knows really how long…it’s adult orthodontic work.

(You never know with orthodontic work right - always ends up being way longer than they tell you upfront 😣).

Nothing like absolutely perfect weather for a parade along the Seawall last Saturday with Mystic Krewe of Aquarius and Party Parrots! We had sooo much fun rolling up and down the line seeing all the floats, visiting friends and family at their floats, and even stopping mid-parade for Elote and Coffee and then catching up to the front of the parade again just before it hit the Strand! Skating really is the best for parades - maybe only second to stiltwalking in them 😅
