Mason Fitch — Dis | AssembledArt Opening TONIGHT
Wednesday, October 8 The Dungeon at Notsuoh

Come through tonight to celebrate the new dungeon art installation and say hi to the artist that made it happen!

This is the first public exhibition by Houston-based artist Mason Fitch

Dis | Assembled investigates self-determination through the appropriation and transformation of traditional objects. The Clockman series, in particular, explores states of becoming and self-betrayal: each piece wrestles with the familiar form of the grandfather clock, celebrating or resisting its transformation in varying degrees.
Suspended, made of three mannequins, captures a single moment where viewers are invited to ask—are these objects emerging toward actualization, or collapsing into destruction?

There will be a movie showing by Billion City in .dome.at.notsuoh from 8:30-10 and audio vibes shall be built by resident DJ artist throughout the night— Free entry with drink purchase to get upstairs!

Kylie Arianna Sivley is a Houston-based artist working in photography, painting, and illustration. For the past seven years, she has been quietly and consistently documenting performances and artists at Notsuoh, capturing intimate, often fleeting moments of live art in one of Houston’s most enduring creative spaces.

Her show, 7 Year Anthology, will be installed in the mezzanine of Notsuoh, offering a rare look back at the people, performances, and energy that have shaped the building’s creative legacy. The preview party offers a first glimpse, with a slideshow of selected images playing inside the dome before and after the performance.

No Tsu Oh, downtown Houston’s late-night coffee and game joint (1990s)

Dim lights, mismatched furniture, and shelves of vintage board games define the vibe inside No Tsu Oh, a quirky downtown coffeehouse where artists, musicians, and night owls gathered long past midnight. The name “Houston” spelled backward reflected its offbeat, introspective charm. In the 1990s, the space became a haven for spoken-word poetry, chess tournaments, and espresso-fueled conversation. It stood in contrast to polished bars and fast-food chains nearby. The place wasn’t trendy it was timeless to those who knew it. It offered Houston a rare corner of quiet rebellion, where creativity and caffeine fueled shared experience.

Notsuoh

A Houston original.

Chess / Conversation / Art /Drinks / Live Music / Eccentricity

“Artist Jim Pirtle renovated a nineteenth-century storefront building on Main Street in downtown Houston into a coffee bar/chess club/gallery/performance space that he dubbed notsuoH — Houston spelled backwards and the name of an early twentieth-century civic celebration. Notsuoh became one of the most notorious, complicated, experimental, social sculpture environments in Houston. On any given night, one could converse with physicists while playing chess with a homeless alcoholic against the background noise of a Japanese speed punk band.”
