Wild! I bet her namesake storm will be very kind to us all.

We are closely monitoring a developing disturbance in the Atlantic that shows strong signs of organization and strengthening. Coincidentally, the next designated name on this season's roster is Dolly, meaning this system is poised to become the next named storm. These storm names are chosen from six alphabetical lists maintained by the World Meteorological Organization that rotate every six years. What can we say that isn't being said already about this incredible woman... My first realization that Dolly was much more than entertainer came during my marching band years. I grew up in the mountains of North Carolina, and once a year we’d find ourselves competing against the marching band from Dolly’s own alma mater, Sevier County High School. They were easily the best looking, best equipped and most fun to watch at the competition- and it was all because of her support.

As the years went by, I learned that what she did for that band was just one small example of what she has done for generations of people throughout Appalachia and far beyond. She used her success to make life a little better for the people around her, usually without making much noise about it.

What a legacy. What a life. And what an incredible example of what it means to never forget where you came from.
