POV: When you say you have scopophobia but you hired a pro so you end up looking like a pro yourself!

Yup! A lot of my clients hate being on front of the camera. And the engagement shoot is a great opportunity to ease any anxiety. But this groom was very much dreading our shoot.

Scopophobia is the fear of being watched and I totally get it. Being in front of the camera is a vulnerable experience. You’re at the mercy of the eye behind the lens. But, with that in mind, I take a lot of care of each person in front of my camera. Paying attention to the details and voicing out feedback puts them at ease. Stopping to adjust the hair or help straighten out their shirt lets them know I’m paying attention. Providing both constructive and positive feedback lets them know I have their back. Letting them attempt the same shots lets them know we’ll be patient. And reviewing my photos as we go gives them the confidence to know we’ll end only with awesome photos.
IMO, this is the only way to treat those on front of your lens. With the utmost care. But it warmed my heart when, after so much anxiety, I received this message from the couple:

“Hector and I went through the photos, and they look amazing! We just wanted to thank you so much for putting our vision to fruition; we will cherish these photos forever. Thank you again, and we can’t wait for you to capture our wedding!”

With the experience they got from the engagement photos, capturing the wedding photos became a breeze.

I’m grateful for Hector and Sylena and for all the people that trusts me 🤍

This year’s Mommy + Me minis were extra special. As I’m now a mother, I felt a bigger responsibility. These shoots… they’re not minis… they’re a moment that we wish could last forever… they’re our everything 🖤

Bayou Bend Collections for a long time didn’t allow photo shoots. Hopefully, Houston photographers will appreciate the gardens and treat it right so we can keep coming back to this garden
Tho the hours allowed are challenging, with the right photographer, you can capture a cinematic engagement shoot with the vibes of soft light, floral air, and that timeless grain that makes every frame feel like a memory.
