Superior Wind Symphony performs Hamilton and more tomorrow night! 🎶

Join us on Wednesday, Oct 21 as the Superior Wind Symphony takes the Rozsa stage for their first performance of the 2026–27 season. This concert also marks Jana Meckler’s official debut leading the ensemble, after acting as interim conductor previously.

To reflect the rich makeup of our nation, Meckler curated a program representing Americans from many cultural backgrounds. A few highlights include:

✨ "My Shot" from Hamilton by Lin-Manuel Miranda, feat. vocal soloist Nico Chua
✨ George Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue, feat. clarinet soloist Kara Hardy
✨ Viet Cuong’s Deciduous, written while grieving his father, a period during which the Vietnamese-American composer felt creatively drained, describing himself as having "lost my leaves."

Bringing a Broadway tour like Hadestown to the Upper Peninsula is no small feat. It takes months of planning, dedication, and a whole lot of heart.

Behind the curtain, the Rozsa’s small but mighty team is working alongside our incredible student crews around the clock this weekend. From unloading semi-trucks of gear and patching complex cabling to plotting line sets, rigging the fly system, and precision-tuning audio channels, instruments, and fog machines. Every single detail matters.

Next week! 👷🪨🎶 New Music in the Mine is bringing bold, innovative sounds straight into the history of the Keweenaw. Experience a unique sonic experience featuring local composers, stunning acoustics, and incredible talent from both local and visiting artists.

The 6 p.m. performances include local composers and performers Kathryn Summersett, Michael G. Maxwell, Adam Hall, and conScience: Michigan Tech Chamber Singers. And will also feature a special performance of Chant from Hadestown by conScience, alongside soloists Paige Lynch, Sebastian Dash, Kathryn Rauscher, Riley Silverman, Ethan Bay, and Coralee Daugherty.

The 8 p.m. performances showcase guest artists from the Michigan State University Electronic Music Workshop.

Join us tomorrow for the opening of Neoliberal Loops. The exhibition features three interconnected works exploring financial crisis, capitalism, representation, and feminism through sound, video, photography, letterpress printing, and LED text displays.

Created with guidance from MTU's Math and Music Lab (MML) co-directors Robert Schneider and Michael Maxwell, the project merges mathematics, visual and performing arts, and the humanities into a unique interdisciplinary experience.

Enjoy refreshments and hear from Emma Johnson about her works at the opening reception.

SHIFT by Detroit Metropolitan Dance marks the first show opening the Rozsa’s season, and Houghton audiences will have the chance to experience this brand-new production before the Company continues on tour.

The performances feature works by renowned choreographers Stephanie Pizzo and Yosh*to Sakuraba, as well as a special premiere choreographed by company dancer Emily "EmM" Moreira. In a unique collaboration, local Keweenaw dancers will perform alongside the professional company in EmM’s piece.

After four years of building connections in the Keweenaw through thier U.P.rootEDD summer intensives, the company is bringing their season launch right here to our community before taking it anywhere else!
