WORLD CLASS WAIKIKI FIREWORKS!

The fireworks show for the Honolulu Festival were donated by Honolulu's sister city of Nagaoka Japan for the 6th consecutive year.

The cities of Nagaoka and Honolulu were both devistated by WWII. The Honolulu Festival began after World World II ended, and serves as a memorial and to symbolize a desire for world peace. Since 2012, the two cities have a formal bond and have worked together to foster peaceful relations.

The fireworks were presented by Fireworks by Grucci and were the largest of the year for the company, eclipsing even 4th of July and New Years shows. It included 3 barges and 1,400 shells!

A message from the mayor of Nagaoka, followed by Japanese & Hawaiian music was broadcast in synchronization on 105.1 KINE radio.

Honolulu Harbor, also called Kulolia and Ke Awa O Kou, is the principal seaport of Honolulu and the State of Hawaiʻi

It handles over 11 million tons of cargo annually. The services that the harbor provides are crucial as Hawaiʻi imports over eighty percent of its required goods.

On September 11, 1926, the world-famous Aloha Tower was officially dedicated at Pier 9 of Honolulu Harbor. The tallest building in Hawaiʻi at that time, the Aloha Tower became a guiding beacon welcoming vessels to Honolulu. Just as the Statue of Liberty greeted thousands of immigrants each year to New York City, the Aloha Tower greeted thousands of immigrants to Honolulu. By the time the Aloha Tower was dedicated, Honolulu was already a popular vacation destination for wealthy American and European families. They traveled on Matson steamers that docked at the Aloha Tower and were greeted by Hawaiian music, hula performers and lei.
