Where you’ll always find something surprising, just around the corner. Kamehameha Schools is a private, charitable educational trust endowed by the will of Princess Bernice Pauahi Bishop, the great-granddaughter and last direct descendant of King Kamehameha I. During her lifetime, Princess Pauahi witnessed the rapid decline of the Hawaiian population. The Princess knew that education would be key to the preservation of the Hawaiian language and the survival of her culture, so in an enduring act of aloha, she left a gift upon her passing – 375,000 acres of ancestral land. She instructed the trustees of her estate to use the land to educate her people. Today, her endowment supports Kamehameha Schools, an educational system that serves thousands of Hawaiian learners in Hawaii and across the nation. As with all of its projects, SALT at Our Kaka‘ako effectively supports the Kamehameha Schools mission by furthering the education of Hawaiian children.

It's time for the ! 🌊 Today's word is Nalu – Wave! 💙

🎨 The newest mural in The Barn, which features a huge nalu, created by Lauryn Gordines and MelonJames, beautifully embodies CreativeMornings Honolulu's manifesto: "He noʻeau kākou a pau. E kipa mai, nou ka hale." “Everyone is creative. Everyone is welcome.” It also serves as a meaningful backdrop for CreativeMornings Honolulu's monthly breakfast talks, inspiring conversation, and connection. 🩵

This vibrant piece weaves together:
🕊️ Manu-o-Kū (white tern) – Honolulu’s official bird, which guided ocean voyagers back to land
✨ Constellations – reflecting the grid of Our Kaka‘ako
🌿 Tamarind trees – a tribute to Princess Pauahi and her deep love for education

Come visit SALT at Our Kaka‘ako to experience this masterpiece and tag us in your photos! 📸
