While a friend brings the heart, they often miss the mechanics. Here’s why the “Friend-Officiant” move often backfires:

• Legal Limbo: Every state/county has different rules. Professionals know the paperwork deadlines; friends often realize on the morning of the wedding that their “certificate” isn’t valid in that specific jurisdiction. Two sign and gos last week were from weddings that happened last year and their friends thought all the had to do was declare them husband and wife 🤦‍♀️

• The “Photo Bomb”: A pro knows to step to the side the second they say “You may kiss.” A friend usually stands there smiling like a proud parent, permanently etched into your most expensive photo. Saw an uncle do this to a dear friend last year. 🤦‍♀️

• Microphone Meltdowns: Wedding planners and DJs have a specific workflow for audio cues. Friends rarely know how to hold a mic (hint: not at their chest) or when to signal the musicians to start the recessional. Happened last month where the batteries went out and seamlessly kept talking while the switch out happed (off camera!).

• Vow Book Chaos: A pro carries backup pens, tissues, and checks that the couple actually has their vows in hand. A friend is usually too busy trying to remember their own opening joke.

• Crowd Control: If something goes wrong (a crying baby, a falling floral arch), a professional keeps the ceremony moving. A friend usually freezes.

I’m sorry, but traditional 1960s vows need an update. Don’t get me wrong, the original tracklist has some absolute bangers:

• In sickness and in health
• For better or worse
• Till death do us part

But it’s not 1960 anymore. We aren’t moving straight from our childhood bedrooms to a marital home, and we definitely aren’t “obeying.” Let’s leave the outdated scripts in the past. 🥂

I know a lot of us who have performed ceremonies loved this area for the mountains, the trees, and if you walk far enough down some seclusion.

The area in front of the pavilion appears to still be untouched. And it does appear like that are getting ready for some bigger structures down the way.
