UPDATE 10/29 3pm- Jevy wants me to express his deepest gratitude for all your thoughts and prayers. His mom is without internet, but we were able to speak to her briefly (a standard phone call is very expensive)--their neighborhood experienced flooding, but nothing severe. His little brother Alex is north, in St. Mary parish, where they experienced worse storm than Kingston (but still not nearly as bad as farther west on the island), and we have no been able to make contact yet, but are optimistic.
------------
This is our Jevy. Heโs 26 and Honesdale is the only place heโs ever been outside Jamaica, here with us since May on a 7-month work visa. Heโs ALWAYS smiling and at 6โ5โ, hard to miss!
Our hearts are with him, his mom Andria, and their humble home back in Kingston as Hurricane Melissa heads their way. Weโre sharing a few photos so you can put faces to your prayers. These pictures of their home are from this morning, where the rains have begun. News in the US begs Jamaicans to โprepare,โ but there really is nowhere to go, and no resources capable of withstanding whatโs forecasted.
Jevyโs family has immense faith and believes in the power of prayer. Please keep them close in your thoughtsโpray for safety, for strength, for a miracle bigger than Melissa that they are spared the worst. If they need more, weโll share real ways to help. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for loving these wonderful people as we do๐
