💍 Wedding things we DON’T recommend DIYing… even if you can.

We love a good wedding DIY. There are plenty of things you can absolutely save money on and handle yourself.

But after years of weddings, there are a few things we recommend taking OFF your plate. 👇

🧀 Your cocktail hour charcuterie/appetizer spread

It sounds simple: buy everything ahead of time and have someone put it out.

The problem? Timing.

Charcuterie and cold appetizers usually need to be assembled and placed pretty close to cocktail hour—which means someone has to be cutting, arranging, carrying, uncovering and setting everything out right around CEREMONY TIME.

And that is crunch time.

Even when you have a coordinator, those final 30–60 minutes before the ceremony are some of the busiest minutes of the entire wedding day. Your coordinator and vendors are checking ceremony details, lining up the wedding party, handling guests, communicating with vendors and solving all those tiny last-minute things you hopefully never even know happened.

Adding “build a charcuterie table” to that list can get complicated FAST.

🎂 Your own wedding cake

Yes, even if you’re a professional baker.

The final 24 hours before your wedding are already FULL. Finishing your own cake, decorating it, storing it safely, figuring out transportation and then getting it to the venue without damage is a level of stress you simply do not need.

Could you do it? Probably.

Should you be worrying about buttercream and cake boxes the night before your own wedding? Absolutely not. 😂

Our rule of thumb:

✨ DIY the things you can finish days or weeks ahead.

✨ Hire out the things that require your attention in the final 24 hours.

Your wedding morning should not come with a production schedule and a to-do list longer than your vows. 🤍

We’ve been a little quieter than usual lately, and it felt like time to share a bit about where Keep it Calm Events is headed.

July and August gave us a rough time, to put it lightly. This summer reminded me how quickly life can change, how little control we sometimes have over the things happening around us, and—perhaps most importantly—that I’m not quite as superhuman as I thought I was.

Maybe I was for the last 12 years.

For 12 years, KIC has had the privilege of being part of so many love stories, celebrations, families, and once-in-a-lifetime moments. There are weddings we still talk about years later, couples we’ve watched grow into families, and memories from this business that I know I’ll carry in my heart forever. I will never be able to fully express how grateful I am for every person who trusted us with such an important day.

But life has seasons, and I think I’m finally learning to recognize when one is beginning to change.

Between now and December 2027, KIC will be slowing down significantly. We’ll still be here, still creating beautiful days and celebrating our couples, but we’ll be taking fewer bookings and being much more selective about the events we commit to.

Beginning in 2028, Keep it Calm Events will be taking a break.

That’s a strange sentence to write after spending more than a decade building something that has been such a huge part of my life and identity.

But this summer taught me something I probably needed to learn: I cannot be everything, everywhere, for everyone.

And for this next chapter of my life, I need to save a little more of that “superhuman” for my little ones—the two people who will still be there when the timelines are finished, the chairs are folded, the flowers have wilted, and the last wedding song has played.

They are my forever.

So this isn’t goodbye just yet. We still have plenty of beautiful celebrations ahead of us through 2026 and 2027, and we plan to make every one of them count.

It’s simply us choosing to slow down, be intentional about what we say yes to, and enjoy this chapter before turning the page.

Thank you for 12 incredible years of trusting us with your love stories.

We’re not finished yet. We’re just making sure there’s enough of me left for mine, too. 🤍
