Celebrate Juneteenth at Wistariahurst 🖤❤️💚

On Friday, June 19th, Wistariahurst (Wistariahurst Museum) and Genuine Culture (Damany_G) welcome you to the Wistariahurst gardens for our annual Celebrate Juneteenth event — a day of community, joy, and honoring freedom on the country’s second independence day.

For the 4th year running, Wistariahurst (Wistariahurst Museum) and Genuine Culture (Damany_G) are teaming up to bring this celebration back for Holyoke and beyond. 🌳

Here’s what’s waiting for you on the grounds:
🎨 Hands-on art projects + games in the gardens
🎶 Live performances and music
🍽️ Local food vendors
🛍️ Black-owned businesses, makers & artists selling locally made goods
📋 Community organizations sharing their work

There’s something for every age. Juneteenth reminds us of the resilience of Black lives — the challenges and victories of formerly enslaved people striving for unity, education, and political engagement during Reconstruction.

⚠️☀️ Due to the Heat Advisory in effect for tomorrow, the decision was made to postpone the opening night of the Night Market to NEXT FRIDAY JUNE 19.

While we’re disappointed to wait one more week, the safety and comfort of our vendors, staff, performers, and all of our guests comes first. ‼️

✨ Good news:
• The Holyoke Night Market will still run EVERY Friday all summer long. (Except July 3 and 21)

• New market hours will be 6PM–11PM.

• We’ll kick off the season next Friday at the Armour Yard and can’t wait to celebrate with you and see all of your faces! ☺️💛

Have you driven down Race Street lately? 👀 There’s a mural turning heads at the De La Luz Soundstage — painted by the crew at

But the art is just the start. De La Luz is downtown Holyoke’s home for live music, theater, dance, cultural celebrations, and community gatherings. 🎶 Two stages, a café and dining room, a courtyard, studios — plus the Technical Arts Institute, where young people from across the Valley train in live sound, lighting, stage management, and event production alongside working pros. 💡

It’s the former Gateway City Arts campus, reborn under LightWorks Collective and back in full swing since 2024.

This Juneteenth, Holyoke joins communities across the Commonwealth for a city-wide day of reflection, music, and spoken word. 🕊️

☀️ Afternoon — Community Voices & Conversation 12:30–2:00 PM | Holyoke Senior Center, 291 Pine St. A participatory community reading of Frederick Douglass’s historic 1852 address, “What to the Slave is the Fourth of July?,” followed by an intimate conversation with acclaimed playwright Ken Green.

🌆 Evening — Music, History & Drama 5:00–7:00 PM | De La Luz Divine Theater, 92 Race St. A soul-stirring sing-along of Lift Every Voice and Sing led by award-winning REVOLUTION A Ca****la, plus a sneak preview of Ken Green’s new play July 5th.

✊ Members of the public are warmly invited to raise their voices and read aloud. Both events are 100% free.

Presented by MIFA Victory Theatre in partnership with the Holyoke Senior Center, LightHouse Holyoke & Holyoke Media. A program of Mass Humanities, funded by the Mass Cultural Council.
