We lost a family friend on Thursday. Robin started out as our realtor but when you've known someone for over 30 years, they become so much more than that. We always knew Robin cared about our family and had our best interest at heart. When, as a child, I was told she was transitioning, I remember her being surprised that we were okay with it. It wasn't a big deal to me. And that is how you know hate is learned. It's something that is taught. As long as you're a good person, kids don't care about anything else. Robin was certainly that.
She taught our family so much and we are grateful to have known her. After transitioning, she told us she had to be careful about who she spent time with and carried a weapon to protect herself. Luckily, she found a man, a veteran, who loved and protected her just as fiercely as she deserved.
Our hearts go out to her life partner, Gary, who has now lost two loves in his lifetime. After receiving these flowers to preserve, we recommended he try a bar in town for a good burger. Someone, not knowing what he was going through, paid for his meal, and he said it reminded him that there are still people in this world who are as good as she was. May we all find a love like that.
With love,
Jolene
