For locals in the area, please go out and show your support for one of our dear friends, Melanie McKenna. After years of pride in her business, commitment to her customers, and excellent food and service, it is time for us to help her out! Show up, support her and let her know we are behind her! Growth is a wonderful thing!! We've heard her plans and this is an amazing project that she is taking on to make your dining experience even greater at the new and improved (if that is possible!) The Lake House. We are all super excited to support her journey, and hope you will too!
Our Lake House friends,
Before this gets completely out of hand, let me clarify a few things. We have purchased property at 1478 Gordon Road, 2 doors down, on the other side of the Santee Lakes KOA, with plans to build a brand-new restaurant building. It will be the same The Lake House Restaurant you're accustomed to, only newer, more efficient, and much better. Most things, menu, staff, etc., will remain the same.
Please know that this area on Gordon Road is zoned "Performance Zone". The back side of our property borders land owned by the same people who own Cooper's Landing. (Her daughter occupies the mobile home on the property that faces Gordon Road.) There is already an easement allowing entrance to our property. This easement is approximately 20 feet wide and 95 feet long. It is half of the driveway to our property. Without this easement this property would be landlocked with no access.
The issue is they are opposed to us using the easement to access the restaurant, a commercial building. They were made aware of the possibility of all of this over 2 years ago and seemed quite amiable and happy we were planning to be their neighbor. Fast forward to the Planning Commission meeting schedule, we were told there was opposition to us using this easement that's been there since 1966 originally.
The meeting of the Planning Commission is Tuesday, 8/19/2025 (today), at 6pm in the County Council Chambers in the Clarendon County Administration Building, 411 Sunset Drive, Manning.
Due to the opposition, I encourage you, if at all possible, to show up to support us in our endeavor to bring a new building to a slightly different location in hopes of bettering the experience for our staff, community, guests, and travelers.
We are thankful for your support over the many years we've been at the current location. We need your support now. We'd love to see you there!
Thanks so much!
Melanie Turner
