✨ LIGHTING UP HISTORY ✨

As part of the RE-Building History Project, the City of Hidalgo & The Hidalgo Historical Commission set forth a vision to illuminate the landmarks that define our heritage and celebrate the stories that shaped our community.

Our latest addition to this initiative is the iconic smokestack at the Hidalgo Pumphouse Museum and World Birding Center. Today, it shines as a beacon of hope—casting new light across the Hidalgo Historic District and symbolizing our commitment to preserving the past while inspiring future generations.

Now, as the sun sets, some of Hidalgo’s most treasured landmarks come alive once again:

🏛️ The Former Hidalgo Post Office, built in 1889 and recognized as the oldest surviving post office building in Texas, stands as a reminder of the people and connections that helped build our region.

⛽ The Rodríguez Store & Gas Station, originally constructed around 1890, remains one of the earliest commercial buildings in South Texas and reflects the entrepreneurial spirit that fueled the growth of our border community.

Together, these illuminated landmarks tell a powerful story—one of resilience, vision, and pride.

This is only the beginning.

Here in City of Hidalgo, our mission goes beyond preserving history. We are creating spaces where heritage, culture, and community can thrive for generations to come.

Because in Hidalgo, we are not just rescuing history—we are RE-Building History.
