Oatlands Historic House and Gardens

How do you think this will affect the west side of the mansion? It will get full sun now in the evening. These are some of the questions we have to ask ourselves as a self-providing non-profit organization.

The storms rolling through our region brought strong winds that snapped a large limb from one of our mature oak trees. A special thanks to Tino's Tree service for the special care and diligence they took to clear the path between the mansion and the Bachelor's Cottage for visitors yesterday.

While we wish it could have been saved, the fallen limb gave us a peek into the trunk where termite activity was clear. After such a narrow miss for the Bachelor’s Cottage, it was decided not to test fate, and so the entire tree had to come down. Can you believe the broken branch spanned across the driveway, beyond the cottage, far enough that it broke a branch from the neighboring linden tree?!
