One thing I don’t talk about much is the dance. Mostly because 99% of couples know that a dj is there to (among other things) play good dance music. And I try to educate couples on things they don’t know or give great advice and planning tips. But, let’s talk dance music for a bit! Every dj is different. So, you definitely want to ask questions before you book. But our take on it is fairly straightforward. During the planning, we’ll talk about musical tastes, genres and songs you like and ones you don’t. Talk dedications and group favorites and get the back story on why those specific songs are important so we better know how and when to play them the night of. And have you give us 15ish “must have” songs and others that you like or like similar to. And definitely the ones that are a hard no. We talk about styles. Do you want high energy club mixed? More of a modern mixing style? Classic style? Line dances? Quick mixed songs? songs played all the way out? Or maybe a hybrid version of things! Then, the night of, we put it all together. A dance is typically around 3-4 hours. Which is roughly 60-80 songs. So, we shoot for a rule of 1/3’s. 1/3 your must haves, 1/3 guests requests and 1/3 songs and genres that go with what you like, what guests are responding to and crowd favorites. And it doesn’t stop there! Lastly, we play to the age range of the room. A super wide variety at first. Things that all ages love. Then we get more specific as the little ones and older crowd winds down and heads to bed. So, while it may seem random, there’s actually a lot of thought that goes into your dance. After all, that’s what ya hired us for to begin with, right?
