Recently I had the absolute privilege of shooting Elise and Shane’s backyard wedding, right across the street from my own house. Elise’s mom Pierrette is one of those neighbors who makes you feel lucky to live where you do, and this wedding was the most perfect reflection of her.
The whole neighborhood showed up for this one. The florist, the caterer, the vendors? All neighbors. Everything else Pierrette did herself. She thrifted vintage mismatched dishes, organized the entire vision, sewed Elise’s dress, then made her daughter’s flower girl dress from the same fabric. She baked multiple types of bread for dinner in the days leading up to it. And on the actual wedding day, she was altering bridesmaid dresses and running day-of coordination with a calm and a smile that honestly made me feel like I needed to get it together.
Because they’re literally my neighbors, we snuck over to my brother’s backyard two doors down for bridesmaid photos before the ceremony so Elise could stay hidden. I’ve shot a lot of weddings, but I’ve never felt as welcomed or as grateful to be somewhere as I did that day. It’s the kind of day I’ll keep thinking about for a long time.
Details and rings to come (one of the perks of shooting your neighbor’s wedding is you can just do those after)!
